I have my 1 hour glucose test at 8 am tomorrow, they told me I didn't need to fast, so I was planning to eat a piece of cheese and maybe some coffee with no sugar and just cream (I usually eat breakfast first thing so it will be hard for me to not eat anything at all). For those who have taken the 1-hour test and passed, did you completely fast or not beforehand? Thanks!
Re: Glucose test at 8 am - fast?
I had some scrambled eggs w a little cheese. I wouldn't want to skip breakfast if it wasn't necessary.
If they didn't tell you to fast then I wouldn't. Id eat something healthy like eggs and toast. Theres no sense in making yourself more miserable if you dont have to!
ETA: I passed the one hour and did not fast before hand. My test was in the evening.
This. Even though I failed (they sprung the test on me and I had apparently eaten a few too many carbs for lunch) I could honestly tell you that the glucola drink would have made me sick to my stomach if I didn't have food in it.
Me too! Omg I had the worst heatburn and gas cramps after that stupid drink, it was total crap.
I was told that I didn't have to fast, but to be safe I plan on hvaing eggs and toast an hour before the test.
I just did my 3 hr yesterday and this is exactly how I felt.....made my stomach burn so bad!!!
My wife is currently at her 3 hr.
I'm a little surprised at some of the responses here - and I don't mean to come off "rude" but I don't really understand why someone would want to try and "cheat" this test. Granted, I know it's a hassle and having to deal with GD until birth would be a pain, etc. But I would think that knowing and handling the potential risks far outweighs the hassle.
I can't speak for my wife - but we did discuss it. And I know we would both rather know if she has GD so appropriate responses can be taken vs the even remote idea of trying to "trick" the test to get a result we prefer.
My .02
I'm sorry...maybe I missed it. But who here is cheating the test?
Eggs and toast is a perfectly healthy thing to eat for breakfast and what I eat pretty much every day. Just because we aren't throwing down on a cinnamon roll the size of our heads doesn't mean we are trying to sway the results.
You are right. You know what my problem is/was? I posted in the wrong thread LOL. There's another (similar) thread where some posters are discussing ways to "cheat." My apologies...
(btw - here is that thread: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/61619173.aspx )
Ahhhh gotcha.
Good luck to your wife on her test!
My test was 8:45am and they told me not to have anything after 9pm the night before. I could have water and dry toast if I wanted. It seems every office does theirs differently, so I would think if you were to eat, eggs would be a great choice because of the protein. I wouldn't eat fruit because of the sugar.
And yes, the drink made me nauseous because I didn't have anything on my stomach. I passed though.
