anyone on here taken provera to start a period?

I have an appt later today to see WTF is going on, but most likely they said they will probably want to induce a period since it looks like I won't ovulate.  :(

We are traveling all day tomorrow and, well, then there's Christmas OOT with my family....what kind of side effects am I possibly looking at here?  TIA.

Re: anyone on here taken provera to start a period?

  • I've taken it several times with absolutely zero side effects, aside from the obvious AF.  Just think of it as resetting your cycle.

  • I've done it many times and never had any issues with it.  Just a normal period would start but it always took several days to kick in.
  • Other than major irritability I didn't experience any side effects.  I think I only took it for 3-5 days and then my period started about 5 days after that.  I've taken it twice.
  • ditto nothing other than normal aunt flo symptoms and a few days later... aunt flo.

  • I had some mood irrtation with provera but it was nothing significant. I had more side effects with prometrium (for something else). But dude, this may be out there but I TOTALLY recommend getting just checked out by the chiro I was telling you about. *(sorry I know this isn't what you asked for)

He has several clients that go to him with infertility issues and are preggo in a matter of time. He also said he's had a girl who needed meds to induce cycles all the time for years and after being aligned she was back to normal.

I've been going to him for 2 months and is it a coincidence I'm on my second pregnancy in those 2 months? (I don't know...) after years of complications. Let me know if you want more info. No side effects what so ever. Dh and I both get adjusted, he has lots more energy (really!) and I no long have achy shoulders, back, etc.

Good luck on your travels, with the meds, and with your new year. I am thinking about you tons!

  • btw, gotta add that I've been ANTI-chiropractors until about 3 months ago.

  • I had some moodiness and hot flashes, but my period started 24 hours after starting it so it worked great.
  • I had no side effects with provera.

I will also second aggieoj. We had all of our IF treatments, failed everything and gave up last fall. This summer, I saw a chiro weekly for about 12 weeks. She had had several clients get PG and I figured...what they hey - I had FSA to burn. I don't think its coincidence I am PG as a surprise. She DID tell me that all of her other successes did not have any IF diagnoses, just hadn't been able to concieve on there own and obviously didn't promise anything. She stated it is because all of your nerves that regulate hormones pass through your c-spine and my curve was off by almost 30%.

  • It didn't work very well for me - I didn't get my period until about 9 days after I started it.  And it made me very bloated, about 3x as much so as typical PMS would.

But I did get pregnant with DS that next cycle.  :)

  • I pretty much have to take it to ever have a period.  I've never noticed any side effects.  I finish taking it and get my period a few days later.  (((hugs)))

  • no side effects for me either.  took it once many moons ago (7years?)
  • No side effects for me, but it didn't work for me either. I had to get fertility treaments (injections and IUI) to get pregnant.

  • I am curious to find out more about the two chiropractors that aggieoj and kitkatishb mentioned. I am in Austin and I am trying less invasive approaches at this point in the game. I have not had my menstrual cycle since March 2011 after stopping the NuvaRing (after approx. 9 years) around Sept 2010. Tried two rounds of prometrium to try to jump start my period with no luck.

Just curious to get more info so I can possibly explore the chiropractic route in addition to the accupuncture and nutritional/herbal approaches that I am exploring right now.

     Thanks!
