Texas real estate agents or insurance agents

Can anybody in these fields give me information about how it works, do they like what they do?? I am considering these 2 fields, not sure which or if it's really for me. I only know law enforcement my whole career, and think maybe its time to get out. Thanks for any information or advice I can take!

  • I was prior law enforcement then went to insurance. You can bring your investigation background to the table for insurance claims, and be able to work more normal hours without any on call work (these are my biggest reasons for staying in the insurance field for the time being). In insurance people are evil when they call in for help 99% of the time. They haven't paid their premium but expect you to cover their loss they caused an accident but don't want to pay their deductible, or are trying to get sue happy. Once LO is a little older I am planning on going back to law enforcement because I find the "criminals" to be more tolerable than the general population.

  • While I don't live in TX I do work in the insurance industry. I work for the largest health insurance carrier in sales and account management for large corporations, and I love my job.  My job is very flexible, pay is great, and I get plenty of time off. The insurance industry is huge and you could either work for the carrier side, broker side, or employer side. I personally would never work for the broker side at least not here in SFL. GL and PM me if you need any advice.

  • I work for an insurance agent in OH doing property and auto insurance for a large insurance company. I know the laws are different than TX but overall I enjoy my job. I do sales and customer service. The way it works here is I work for the owner of the agency, not the large company we sell insurance for. So I dont get health insurance. This could differ from agent to agent, but thats something to look at if you are thinking about working for a smaller agency. I love my job and the people i work for, I hate the lack of benefits. Over all insurance has a lot of opportunities you may have to get licensed depending on what field you go into. It takes some studing and a state test here in OH. Not horribly hard or expensive but it does cost money and take time. GL to you.
