People who told around Christmas

When ya'll announced the big news, did any one have any reactions like "Oh, I was wondering what the belly was about?" or "I thought your boobs were bigger." Or anything along those lines. Some people even said, they see a glow about me. I don't know.

My family members (In-laws mainly) were like that. I'm not tiny, but I would say I have an average sized body that I take real good care of. I always thought I had a little belly, but I guess it is a tad bit bigger (and I wore a baggy sweater), I know my boobs are because bras don't lie.

But did anyone else experience this and think Wow! Really? I am showing off my pregnancy already?

Re: People who told around Christmas

  • My husband's grandma said she knew as soon as I walked in, because I had a glow....but she is a few steps away from the looney bin, so it's hard to tell if she was telling the truth or not. But I will take it! Stick out tongue

  • My husband told his extended family over the phone. I posted this already in August, but it gives you and idea how THAT went. /face palm

(from the August 2012 post) So we told my husband's extended family over Christmas that we are expecting and, for the second time, someone made an odd, hurtful comment. First time his dad said something over Thanksgiving (when we were out in KS visiting) about how he didn?t think we were going to have kids haha Tongue Tied . Except that we had talked about it last year and what were we doing to get financially ready. This time it was his grandmother so said something like how she didn?t think were ?were going to do any of that?. Oy.

Thankfully, we were calling and in NYC. I sort of when into the bedroom to ugly cry and my husband rushed off the phone to come comfort me, which made me feel worse because, honestly, why the hell do I care. I guess it is that there is no ?positive spin? on these comments; they make no sense. As my husband put it: they suggested that his family think things about me/us that weren?t true. I wondered if it had to do with me being ?old? (35) and/or a ?career woman?. I have a really important job and 2 Masters in a family for which having a BA is considered a really big deal and I have felt before that his extended family sees me as some strange exotic bird.

His dad actually picked up quick on the issues and texted Andrew very soon after to ask if the comment was why he rushed off the phone. Andrew told him about his own comment in addition to this making me feel awkward etc. He was really apologetic and expressive in their love and support of me (which I totally believe) but WTH is with the family thinking that we were going to be childless?

    Again: oy.

  • My Aunt who always says exactly what is on her mind commented on how much bigger my boobs and belly were then looked at me, smiled, winked, and walked away.  My cousin took me aside and said, "you either had the best sex of your life last night or you're pregnant!"  It's a good thing we were going to announce that day anyways!  lol

  • We told my boyfriends mom on Xmas Eve and told my parents on Xmas and we were very lucky to not get any comments that were hurtful. My aunt did make a comment along the lines of "I didn't think you wanted kids!?" but it didn't bother me because I did say that for a long time (but that was also because I was in a terrible marriage and the THOUGHT of having kids with that man made me want to crawl into a hole!) haha. But no, no weird comments....thankfully because I'm sure anything at that point would have made me burst into tears! :)

  • All I got was "that's what happens when you lose weight" and lots of congrats.

  • Since I'm only about 4-5 weeks pregnant, we announced it only to our parents on Christmas (and 2 of our close friends know). On Christmas Eve, we saw my DH's extended family, and his aunt commented on how skinny I looked and said I looked great. I have lost a few pounds since I've almost completely lost my appetite lol. When we told our parents (my mom and MIL knew we were trying, FIL did not), they were all really excited and my mom told me she thought I was going to tell her because apparently I was touching my stomach a lot the night before, which I didn't realize Smile I can't wait to get to the point where I can actually physically tell I'm pregnant, except for my one boob that has been growing!! LOL

  • Well, our families knew already, but we told FB and I got a lot of in-person congratulations after that, and no one said anything about my looks.  My SIL did mention on Christmas that I had the "pregnancy glow" . . . "You mean the oil slick that has broken out on my face?" was my response ;)  But she insisted that I was glowing in a GOOD way.

  • So get this....

My husband and I told his family at their Christmas family gathering on Christmas Eve and all went well...my father-in-law even cried which made me bawl like a baby :).

We then told my family on Christmas day at our family gathering. Well, my nana was there and she isn't known for her tact. As soon as I announce we are pregnant with our 1st baby which is basically the biggest news of my life thus far my nana jumps in front of me and says, "well, I have some news I have been sworn to secrecy about....there is another baby on the way too" and then proceeds to announce that my cousin who lives several states away who isn't married and is a bit of a wild-child is pregnant too.

I didn't say anything at the time of course but it just peeves me that she felt the need to interrupt my moment like that. I know she didn't mean any harm by it so i am not mad at her or anything but I just wish some people would think before speaking. My cousin doesn't even want anyone to know and no one can say anything about it so why jump in on my moment!

Ugh, anyway...just thought I'd vent about my THUNDER being STOLEN!!! lol

  • We told the fmaily on Thanksgiving and my SIL commented on how HUGE my boobs looked, lol!

On Christmas, my MIL rubbed my belly and said I was rounding out nicely. It was a but odd....

  • We told immediate family at Christmas celebrations and they were all thrilled.  None had any idea.

Apparently one of my relatives asked my Mom later (I wasn't there) if it was planned (which I think is an awkward question).  And my elderly grandma-in-law (she's in her upper 90's) gave me the following pregnant advice, "Don't eat for two or you'll become a fat axx!".

So overall, great reactions to our first child announcements.

  • lol to grandmas! My grandma-in-law who is 88 said "now sweetie, you don't need to go eating everything you see" Im like, um, ok.
  • We told both families at dinner on Christmas day...My husband announced that I was pregnant through a toast before dinner. His father asked if I wanted wine and I said sure...His sister was caught off guard and was wondering well if she is pregnant she wouldn't be drinking...LOL He then announced that I wouldn't be drinking the wine for the next 9 months or more. It was quite cute and everyone started clapping. Both my mother and mother-in-law said they thought that I was pregnant but didn't want to come out and ask. My mother in law commented " I thought you were after your almost fainting spell at church a few weeks ago but didn't want to ask if it was pregnancy related" LOL It was by far the best Christmas present to our family members. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! We sure did Smile
  • I didn't get any rude comments but my husbands grandmother said she knew for a long time. She said she knew before I did. Kinda of weird. And my brother's girlfriend, also said the same thing. They both said they knew in October, and I didnt find out until November 15. So that's a little strange.
