So, this is my first pregnancy and I am naturally a bit type A so obviously I am a little neurotic about everything pregnancy/baby related
.
I have decided to go to a midwifery in my area that my sister-in-law has used on all 3 of her babies and highly recommends. I spoke with them about setting up my first appointments and they don't do the first actual appointment until 12 weeks where they would look for a heartbeat and such. She actually said I could come in as early as 9 weeks but they can't always here the heartbeats that early.
I am seeing posts on here about women getting 8wk appointments and hearing the heartbeat...what was your experience???? Any advice on this??? I could actually go to my regular gyno to get one earlier but would have to pay for it...I think they run about $100-$150 per u/s.
Re: My Midwife Doesn't Want to See Me Until 12 Weeks!?!?
I think it is worth it to wait. We had an early U/S when I thought I was 8 weeks and I ended up measureing at 5 weeks and could not find a heartbeat. We then had to wait, which was dreadful, to only get the news that were miscarrying. I will never go to an early u/s again.
With his pregnancy, my first appt. is tomorrow and I should be 11 weeks.
I understand it is hard to wait but ,in my opinion, I'd rather wait instead of being stuck in limbo.
Thank you so much for all of the replies...I will try to chill out
.

FWIW With my 1st pregnancy due to a bunch of stuff I didn't have my first appt til 14 weeks! I felt the same way you did...but everything was fine.
The OB I'm currently going with (trying to decide between OB and midwives for VBAC...) won't see me til 11.5 weeks. 12 really isn't that late.
I had midwifery care for most of my first pregnancy and I think you'll find it is a lot different than more medicalized care, but it is also a lot better. It takes some getting used to since we're all used to how doctor's work, but midwives are amazing women and KNOW pregnancy and birth.
