If you just pump, fill me in on your schedule

I'm thinking of introducing the bottle and just pumping until I go back to work in March.  I need educated on what a pumping schedule looks like, though.  I feel overwhelmed when I think about it all.  Also, what do you do when you go in public?  Just take your pump with you?  How many times are you up in the night pumping?  As of right now, Charlotte gets up at around 12, and then again at 3 or so, to eat.

Re: If you just pump, fill me in on your schedule

  • I try to pump every 2-3 hours, and I do take my pump with me when I go places I know that there will be a private room for me to pump in. I actually usually don't pump during night right now, I pump around 11pm before I try to get a stretch of sleep in and then again at 7am (usually I do have leakage on my shirt when I wake up, but I'll take it if it means I can sleep a little longer). I was able to start not pumping at night when I was able to produce enough milk to have enough set aside for all of her night feedings.

  • I nurse when she wants during the night because I don't want to get up and try to warm bottles. However during the day, I would suggest pumping every 3-4 hours. If you are home, stay on schedule, if you are out, try to plan your outings so that you would be home within 4 hours. If not, keep your pump in the car and pump once before you go home.

  • I pump every 4 hours during the day,  I dont pump at night because I like my sleep Embarrassed

I have a hospital grade pump right now (symphony) and havent taken it anywhere (its huge), so I have just had to make sure I am home when its time to pump. I am getting a freestyle to replace it though so that will allow me to bring it places. I plan to get the car adapter as well.

  • I am doing both so I don't pump at night but pump in the morning after his first feeding and then again later in the day and before bed.  I have the Medela Freestyle now (with DD had the PISA) and have pumped in the car as well (so far only when DH is driving but with #1 - I did pump in the car sometimes when I was driving.
