BFers---bring breast pump to hospital?

The reason I am asking is I wasn't sure if an LC helped you figure out how to use it etc.  And made sure it was fitting correctly.

I think I've heard too if the twins end up in the NICU for any length of time, they may give some of my pumped milk too.

Thoughts?

    Call the hospital you're delivering at. Mine had Medela Symphony pumps, which are their hospital-grade line. I was able to use them there when I was an inpatient, and also when I was visiting my girls in the NICU. Even better, they provided me with a full set of Medela parts for the pump- flanges, membranes, tubes, bottles, etc. All of these were compatible with my Medela PISA advanced at home, I just needed to pull off the round discs that the Symphony required when I was at home.
    TTC#1 since Mar 2008. Serious MFI due to cancer. 3 cancelled IUI's, just about every test in the book. IVF#1 - BFP! Twin girls arrived 2/5/10 at 35w2d. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

    I would bring your pump - that way you can get used to it.  I forgot mine at first with the boys and used the hospital one (they provided everything), but it wasn't the same as mine.  In the beginning keeping everything streamline and simple is the best.  I also questioned whether my pump at home was really strong enough - the hospital one was nicknamed goliath, it was a beast.

    DH brought mine up a few days into my stay after LC recommended it since my milk still hadn't come in yet. It helped to get it in a little quicker i think.

    Same here. The LC helped me set it up (my mom had already washed it for me but we didn't know how to put it together). My girls also didn't BF well so the LC's told me to pump every 3 hours to get my milk in. Unfortunately they never really took to BFing so now we EP.

    I would bring it, even if you just leave in locked in your car at first. 

    Since we were from out of town, we ended up staying at a Ronald McDonald House (what a blessing!) while the girls were in the NICU. Someone was generous enough to purchase a few of the Medela Symphonies identical to the NICU's to use for RMH guests, but I wasn't allowed to take it to our bedroom; they had a "pumping room" which was nice, but at midnight and 3am it was very convenient to have my own pump and not have to get dressed to go to the pumping room.

    I also used it when DH and I took a little break from the NICU and we decided to go out shopping and for a nice lunch and I pumped while I was in the car. (I have the Medela Pump in style Backpack.)

    ETA: My LC was very helpful even though I'd used this same pump with DD1: turns out I needed a different size breast shield and since my pump was a Medela, she hooked me up with a set of freebies and I could use them on the NICU pumps and my personal one :)

    I used their pump and then rented a hospital grade.  My LC recommended using a hospital grade, no idea why. 

    I'd bring it so you can get used to it.

    The LCs told me that only a hospital grade is strong enough to stimulate milk production (the ones you can purchase are fine once feeding is established, but if you are pumping and then bottle feeding because the babies won't take the breast you want the strongest suction you can get).

    I wouldn't bother.  They brought me a Medela Symphony pump to use and it worked great.  I ended up renting one from a supplier nearby.

    I do suggest pumping right away to help get your supply going.  I wished I'd done it right away.

    I'm planning to rent the Medela Symphony and the LC I spoke with told me to request a parts kit and because I'm having twins, it should be free. Sweet :).
