Yeah, things have been crazy the past few months.... my MIL fell off the porch and shattered her ankle. She had to have reconstructive surgery, and was immobile for quite a while. She was feeling very sick and went to the ER, turned out she not only had pneumonia but multiple blood clots in her lungs that almost killed her.
Anyway, during this whole mess I took her library books back for her b/c she was worried about them. She had about 30 books out for DS, and my FIL packed them in bags for me. I took them to the library and dropped me off....my MIL just called today yelling that she owes $20 to the library b/c 3 books are missing. I tried to say that I just took what they gave me and took them back (ie: I was trying to be nice by helping.) I'll look at home tonight, but I know they aren't there.
Long story short....what happens if you lose the books? Is there a huge fine?

Our library has a max late fine of $5/ book so basically you pay the late fee of $5 and just keep looking for the book. I thought we lost one once and the librarian told me to just let it sit on our account at the max $5 fee and it I'd eventually find the book. About a month later I did and turned it in then. Every library has their own policy though.
At our public library, You have the option of paying for it or replacing. Amazon's price was cheaper so we just bought it. That and the late fees.
However, when I misplaced a book in college, where they rebound all the books, I had to pay nearly $200 for pride and prejudice, a public domain book ;( I thought that was how it was going to be when we lost the book from the public library, but luckily they have a different policy.
