What did you do for the initial testing? My Dh went for a SA and I went for all bloodwork... My Dr. says if the SA comes back normal we might start Clomid..
I had an ultrasound at my first RE appt. in addition to bloodwork for DH and I. We also scheduled a S/A for my H and a HSG for me.
You should have a HSG before starting Clomid (or Femara) to make sure your tubes are open, to check the shape of your uterus, etc. (Clomid will do you no good if you have blocked fallopian tubes).

We started with a SA with the OB. Abnormal results let to a MFI uro and subsequent SAs. No progress there led to me a RE who wanted to do a full work up on me. I did the vaginal ultrasound, tons of bloodwork inc CD3, and I have a HSG Thurs.
Thats it for now. We'll come up with a plan based on those results. I am almost certain the plan won't include Clomid, so I hope there's a reason for you taking it.

I'm in the MFI category too -- very similar to Maggie, but my fertility workup did not include an HSG because both REs I saw agreed it was unnecessary (bloodwork and vaginal ultrasound were fine).
Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.
IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.
Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

For our inital testing we did the following:
Me
Transvaginal ultrasound
pap smear (etc?)
BW
HSG
Mammogram (I'm over 35 yrs old)
DH
BW
SA
And plenty of SA and BW since.
I had CD3 Bloodwork, Transvaginal Ultrasound, SHG, HSG, more Bloodwork, and more ultrasounds.
SA for DH
I agree with what some of the other posters have mentioned - you definitely want to be sure there are no blockages before starting Clomid.
Chemical Pregnancy
My testing included cd 3 b/w, 7dpo b/w, endometrial biopsy, cd 10 ultrasound, post coital test, HSG and my husband has had 4 S/A's.
I also agree with PP's about getting a HSG before going on Clomid.

I had boatloads of bloodwork, a genetic karyotype, an HSG and Saline unltrasound, and a regular vag ultrasound. DH has a SA.
