Random Disney question - Rainforest Cafe

Do you absolutely need reservations?

There are only two times available for the date I wanted, and neither of them work. 9pm dinner with a 3 year old doesn't sound like a good plan, right?

I remember going when I was in college, so 7 or 8 years ago, and we just walked in. Of course we had to wait a while, but we did not have reservations. Has it changed?

  • I know we went two years ago and didn't need one. I did notice that they added the Rainforest Cafe to the dining plan for 2012.  Did you try the one in Downtown Disney and at the Animal Kingdom?

I only checked Downtown because I was planning to go the evening we arrive. We won't be doing a park that day because we are getting there in the early afternoon, and I believe for the one at AK you have to pay the park admission to get in. I didn't want to use a day of our tickets for only a few hours.

  • You don't need reservations but you can have a very long wait. When we were there for my job last February, we went there one night. Because I didn't know what nights I would have work committments, we didn't have any advance reservations. The concierge at the hotel was able to get us a better reservation for Rainforest; you may want to check in with them. Another night, they gave us a card for another place that allowed us to only have to wait 30 minutes guaranteed when for walk ups, it was 90 minutes.

  • You actually don't need a pass to the parks to eat at the Rainforest Cafe in the Animal Kingdom. The restaurant is outside the park and thus you can enter it without actually entering the park.  I would definitely check there as it tends to be less busy from what I have seen.

Awesome! Thanks for that info - they have reservations available between 5-6pm which is more what I had in mind. This is great!

The one at DTD is very, very busy most any time of year- but, they take walk-ins. Just be prepared to wait forever. Are you eating at T-Rex, too? It's exactly the same "type" of restaurant with a dinosaur theme- my son really loves it. It isn't nearly as busy, either- we usually can walk-in at 10 minutes, if that.

If you're doing AK one day, I'd try to plan the RC around that day and do T-Rex when you come in. :)

Thanks, I will check that one out too! I think we are doing AK, but not 100% sure yet. We are staying at the All Star Sports resort though, so we will be close to AK either way.

If you go to T-Rex, don't let them seat you in the "Ice Cave". If the one at Disney is set up anything like the one in Kansas City, you can't see (and can barely hear) ANY of the action during the "earthquake". We were severely disappointed. Poor DS was craning to see what was going on and couldn't. Plus, the food was bland and very expensive.

  • Eat at Earl of Sandwich instead!  Oh, and I'm not kidding, this place is delicious!

We ate there at lunchtime and didn't need reservations.  Not sure when you are going but I would just keep checking back, people cancel all th time.  We ate at the one at Downtown Disney because the line for Earl was too long and I was pregnant and hungry.

  • We never needed a reservation.  We have eaten there twice in the last year and were seated within 20 minutes each time.

We ate at T-Rex on Christmas Eve and the place scared DD when they did the meteor shower/end of the world.  I would go to Rainforest Cafe instead of T-Rex with a little one.

We've sat in the "Ice Cave" section, and it was absolutely fine (maybe a touch TOO loud- I was afraid it would freak out my youngest, but, she was a trooper). We don't have an earthquake, though- they do a meteor shower, and the light effects are all over the ceiling in every room.

Oh yes - it was a meteor shower - I thought earthquake sounded wrong when I typed it but couldn't think of what would be right. Either way, it was totally not what we were expecting.

  • I was incredibly disappointed with Rainforest Cafe when we ate their in August.  We were seated relatively quickly but everything else took for.ev.er.  I recommend eating at Sanaa instead.  It is located at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and has FANTASTIC food.  Plus, if you go early you can be seated to have a view of the Savannah.  My almost 2 year old absolutely loved it.
