At 41+ weeks, I'm starting to get panicky about the induction process (Googling Cervidil was a really stupid idea). If you were induced, would you mind taking my super non-scientific survey? Thanks!
Were you dilated and/or effaced prior to induction?
Were you given Cervidil/prostglandins? If so, did your cervix ripen?
Was your induction successful (ETA: vaginal) or did you need a C/S?
Re: Questions for those who were induced
I was 1 cm dialated and only a little effaced.
I was given two dosed of Cytotek. (similar to Cervadil, but a tiny pill, rather than a tampon type thing) I didn't need anything else to get my labor going, we skipped right past pitocen.
Vaginal delivery, 9 pound+ baby. Decided to get the epidural - best decision ever! Everything went great.
I was 2-3 cm dilated and 80-90% effaced, o no cervical ripening needed. We started right in with pitocin.
I ultimately decided to get the epidural about an hour after the Dr broke my water, because the contractions were coming on strong with no down time in between. I wasn't allowed to be out of bed because of bp issues, so that made it more difficult to manage the contactions. Epi was the best decision.
Vaginal delivery, 6lb 11oz baby, but he was sideways coming out (shoulders perpendicular to where they should have been), 2 1/2 hours of pushing because of it.
Were you dilated and/or effaced prior to induction? Yes at my last appt I was 2cm, morning of induction I was 3cm 50% effaced.
Were you given Cervidil/prostglandins? If so, did your cervix ripen? Nothing needed since I was already dialated.
Was your induction successful [ETA: vaginal]or did you need a C/S? Yes it was successful. Pitocin started at 6:20am and had DS at 4:46pm. 9lbs 4oz 20 3/4 inches! At first I was progressing quickly, OB thought we would have him around lunch time. However, after the EPI things slowed down a little. They said that is normal with the epi.
2-3 cm dilated, 80% effaced.
They inserted a foley bulb which broke my water. After 20+ hours of labor, ended in c-section because baby would NOT fully engage, and his heart rate was dropping with each contraction.
22 1/4 inches 8 lbs 14 oz
I was about 1 cm dialated and 50% effaced. After about 12hrs hours ot Pitocin I was only at 4cm. Dr. had to stop Pitocin due to close contractions and potential cord interference. I ended up needing a C-Sec.
I was 5cm and 90% effaced when I went in for my induction. Because of that, I didn't need any cervical ripeners. I had a vaginal delivery after about 6.5 hours of labor.
Good luck!
Ella born 12/21/11
I was induced with three of my four.
I was dilated about 1/2 cm, if that with my first. I was 3cm with my third, and 2cm with my fourth (second child came on his own before his induction date).
I had cervidil only with my first. It got me to 3cm overnight.
All three of my inductions were successful, and good experiences as far as labor goes. My last one was more difficult, but not due to the induction, but because he was sunnyside up.
I wasnt induced with this one, but was with my first two.
Were you dilated and/or effaced prior to induction? yes, 2-3cm for both and effaced
Were you given Cervidil/prostglandins? If so, did your cervix ripen? Was never given cervadil, went straight to pitocin
Was your induction successful (ETA: vaginal) or did you need a C/S? Both were successful vaginal deliveries
Were you dilated and/or effaced prior to induction?
Fingertip dilated 20% effaced
Were you given Cervidil/prostglandins? If so, did your cervix ripen?
Cervadil (2 rounds over 24 hrs) and I dilated to 3-4 cm and 70-80% effaced
Was your induction successful (ETA: vaginal) or did you need a C/S?
Ended up with a c/s due to LO being transverse and stuck in the birth canal
Were you dilated and/or effaced prior to induction? NO. I HAD A MEDICAL INDUCTION AT 39 WEEKS.
Were you given Cervidil/prostglandins? If so, did your cervix ripen? NO, SHE USED A COOK'S BALLOON AND CYTOTEC TO RIPEN MY CERVIX. I HAD TO TAKE THE BALLOON OUT AFTER 2 HOURS B/C OF THE PAIN (MADE ME PUKE IT HURT SO BAD), BUT KEPT IN CYTOTEC FOR 8 HOURS. I DILATED TO 2 CM ONLY, 80 PERCENT EFACED. PITOCIN DID NOTHING, THEN REDID THE BALLOON WITH EPIDURAL, AND ONLY GOT TO 4 CM.
Was your induction successful (ETA: vaginal) or did you need a C/S? AFTER 36 HOURS OF TRYING TO INDUCE LABOR, I HAD A C/S B/C SHE WAS NOT DROPPING AND LABOR WAS NOT STARTING. TURNS OUT SHE WAS SUNNY SIDE UP AND WOULDN'T DROP. ALSO, MY PELVIS WAS NARROW (SURPRISED BY THAT!) AND SHE WAS PRETTY BIG.
Were you dilated and/or effaced prior to induction? Nada - I was high/tight/closed/head still swimming and not engaged at all.... Both times
Were you given Cervidil/prostglandins? If so, did your cervix ripen? Yep - I'm very glad though with the second that I was able to start the night before so I could rest during the easy part of L&D instead of starting in the morning and being hooked up to monitors all night instead of necessarily being hooked up to them all day long...
Was your induction successful (ETA: vaginal) or did you need a C/S? Both times were vaginal deliveries. The second was far easier than the first because I let my body's instincts take over for what it needed in allowing the baby to move down. I also only pushed for 10 minutes from a "0" position because LO was having very slight dips in his heart rate after each contraction..
