I had my 2nd appt on Thursday at my OB's office. Turns out, I have lost 5 lbs since last time. I know it's not a lot & it's really just a little fluctuation, but the dr said he is concerned about my weight loss and wants to see me put that weight back on & then gain the expected weight during pregnancy (which I was told for me is the normal 25-35lbs).
I guess I just want others' opinions on this. Whether you are a FTM or you've been through this before, if you've lost weight during the early weeks, how was it handled by your dr and what did you do in your pregnancy to put the weight on? I've never had a problem with weight before, but I feel like now my body is metabolizing my food so quickly & it's so much different than when my body was only mine.
Help is appreciated. Thanks, ladies! & Merry Christmas!
Re: for those who've lost weight
I have lost 10lbs total. During my last two appointments I had protein in my urine. She was concerned that i wasn't eating or drinking enough. Ironically I am overweight. Gaining weight has never been a problem. I just have zero desire for food and constant nausea/vomiting.
She told me to eat 6 small meals a day and drink more liquids. I can't even make three meals a day so 6 is a real stretch. She recommended for me to drink calories. Juice or milk.
I have the opposite problem, lol. I have gained 4 lbs at 15 weeks, and I am right on track with healthy weight gain. In order to maintain this however, I have had to be dligent when watching what I eat .. I could seriously gain 10 lbs without trying if I really wanted too.
Maybe you should try eating more carbs like rice, whole wheat pastas and bread, and calorie heavy dairy items .. cheese, milk etc ?

I lost weight with my first LO and now with this one too. Different Dr's for each pregnancy and niether of them were concerned. A lot of women lose weight or just don't gain any, during the first trimester. I more than made up for the weight loss with my first pregnancy, this time I'm hoping to stay within the recommended range, though.
I'm actually suprised your Dr was so concerned over a 5lb loss.
With my first I never really lost, just took awhile to start gaining. With my 2nd I lost at first and slowly gained back (I hit my pre-pg weight at 30 weeks). This time is a lot like my 2nd, I didn't lose quite as much but I'm still 5-6 pounds under pre-pg weight but slowly gaining.
My OBs (I've ended up with different ones each time for the most part) have never really been concerned. As long as I wasn't dehydrated, keeping water and SOME food down and not losing weight at a rapid pace. A little fluctuation here and there never was cause for concern. It all caught up at the end and my first two were and are totally healthy
I lost weight with my first. I slowly gained towards the end, but only about 12lbs. I seem to be on the same track with this one. The doctor made sure I wasn't trying to keep the weight off or down and monitored me pretty closely. In the end there was nothing to worry about my dd was 6lbs 5 oz. and a healthy girl!
Mine seems to be for a few reasons. One is nausea; in the beginning I simply can't eat. Then I crave fruit. I rather sit with a bowl of fruit than a box of chocolates or even a hamburger. Last is that sweet little baby took up a lot of room and I couldn't eat very much without feeling stuffed.
