Sorry, this is long overdue. Been a bit busy what with birthing a ginormous baby, and Christmas and visitors and whatnot... Dawson John was born last Tuesday night, Dec. 20 at 11:31pm.
So you may remember that I'd been having contractions for several weeks. They were never too painful, but earlier in the month had started coming about 3.5-4 minutes apart, so we went to the hospital on Dec. 9, thinking we were in labor. We were sent home shortly after, because even though they were that close together, they weren't being productive at all, and I was still dilated the same amount (2cm) that I'd been 2 days prior at my appt. So, I went home and dealt with contractions for another week and a half.
I had an induction scheduled for Thurs 12/22. On Monday 12/19 I decided there really wasn't anything left for me to do at work, and I was convinced I'd be induced on Thurs so I arranged with my boss to start my leave a few days early, hoping to wrap up the rest of my Christmas to-do list before being induced.
So on Tues 12/20 I stayed home and got a crapload of stuff done. Starting at about noon that day, I noticed some watery, pale pink on my toilet tissue when I went to the bathroom. Did some googling, thought maybe my water had broken so I laid down on the bed for an hour and timed contractions. I was hoping that if it was my water broken, laying down would move the baby's head off the cervix and the fluid would leak out letting me know for sure that's what it was (as per Dr Google's advice). No fluid leaked out, and the contractions were 7.5 minutes apart. I got up and continued with my chores, but still had the pink the rest of the afternoon.
At about 5pm, I'd been wrapping gifts on the coffee table, and I stood up and felt a very small gush of fluid. A few minutes later, I felt another small gush. I figured for sure it was my water this time, and called DH. He picked up DS, I showered, and we were checked into hospital by 6:30pm. In the meantime, the contractions were getting much stronger and pretty painful, and each one was closer than the other. By the time I was in my hospital room, they were about 4 min apart.
The nurse did the test to make sure it was my water that had broken, and she said it was for sure amniotic fluid. A little while later, she checked me for dilation, called it 4cm, but said, "but you still definitely have a bag of water! That must have been the forebag that broke".
WTF is a forebag? That's not in any of the books! Apparently, theres a bag around the bag of water, and that's what broke at 5pm. Who woulda thought? Also, by the time she was done checking my dilation, she said I'd already gone to 5cm. Like, went from 4-5 while she was checking me!
They called the anesthesiologist, who had just gone home, and she arrived and I was feeling great by 9pm. The on-call doctor was there and came in and broke my water at 10pm, but we were still waiting for my doc to get there from Marble Falls to deliver. (the oncall doc just wanted to help out so he broke my water). I was 7cm when he broke my water at 10pm. At a little after 11pm, I was 10cm, my doctor was there and the nurse told me to give a couple practice pushes. I did, then doc stepped in, I gave about 3 more pushes, and Dawson was born.
My epi was amazing - I seriously did not feel like I was doing anything, and I was shocked when they told me he was out. I watched them weigh him, and saw the scale said 8.1, and I said, "Aw, 8lbs, 1oz - he's the same size Logan was!". My DH said "Uh. Babe. It says NINE POUNDS, 8.1 OUNCES!!"
Holy crap - he's huge! He was 22.25 inches long! He's beautiful - he looks so much like Logan (just a little pudgier!). He's really good so far, he's nursing like a champ (like a 9.5lb champ!!), and only cries when he's hungry or has a messy diaper.
Logan is seriously IN.LOVE. with him, and is so so proud to be a big brother. He is just the sweetest big brother ever. We've had a lot of family visiting and will for the rest of the week, so I'll probably be off and on here. We're heading out to Dawson's first pedi appt in about an hour so if there's anything to update with that, I will. Thank you so much for all the well wishes, and thanks Keribells, for posting when he was born! Here's a couple pics (if I can do it right, which I never can...):

Aw great story. I can't imagine having ongoing contractions like that. I just had them for one day and was sick of it. My epi was amazing too!
Congrats!
