Help me! Baths are getting tough now.

We've been usig bath seats for awhile and that has worked out well. Only now they are constantly trying to get out of them. They like to stand and want to do it all the time now! It's freaking me out at bathtime now because we keep having to sit them down or prevent them from getting up. So what do we do now? Do we take out the seats and put in a no-slip mat on the bottom of the tub? They are only 12 months so I don't really know what is the best option now.

  • Yep - We've been bathing them with just a mat and a faucet cover since they were about 9 months old.

They'll need some tough lessons about "no standing in the tub"  but they'll eventually get it.

  • my boys love to stand in bath too, but they have been real good about following directions when say "sit."  they are entertained with bath balls and bath letters.  we haven't used the seats for a while bc they would tip them over!  they are just loose in the tub, but my tub has "built in" skid things to prevent falls.

  • I still use the bath seats and when they try to stand I just grab their hands and make them sit down again, tell them "Sit down, please" and then quick distract w/ a toy. We keep a basket full of bath toys for this purpose. And our baths are like max 10 minutes long.

  • I just consistently say "no, sit down please".   I usually have to say it a couple times per bath, but they are pretty good now about sitting right back down when they hear me say it.  If they are insisting on standing up, then bath time is over.

  • We never used a seat. Once they were able to sit unsupported, they graduated from the infant tub to the big girl tub.

    They love bath time!

  • Thanks all! I think we will have to find a bath mat for the tub. :)

  • I skipped the bath mat and just put a towel in the bottom of the tub.  It worked much better!  Also, scrub them quickly when they get in.  If they stand up too many times, bath time is over.
