Maternity and Newborn Photography?

Hi all, looking for some suggestions for photographers in the area that are very "reasonably" priced (read, cheaply)... and by reasonable, I mean I can't afford $500-$600 or more and ideally looking for under $400. I would love to go with some of the photographer's I've looked up but it isn't in the budget with the little one on the way

Has anyone got experience with a photographer that does in studio with props included? Any direction would be appreciated! Thank you all!

What are you wanting for $400 or under? I don't know any custom photographer that would be able to afford the overhead of a studio [rent alone is $$$$ per month] charging $400 for two sessiosn and the files or prints from those sessions.

I'd suggest JC Penney if you wanted to go the studio route. If you're open to someone who is just starting out, look on Craigslist...they tend to be cheap. Though I'll warn you, like with anything, you tend to get what you pay for!

My SIL uses JC Penny. They aren't the fabulous ones outside photographers do, but they're decent.

For studio portraits i've always had good luck at portrait innovations. they are super reasonably priced and you get pretty good studio photos. they also have tons of props there. to me it's a good value. you can get a ton of pictures and different poses for easily under $200. 1 pose starts at $9.99.

Sorry, I didn't necessarily mean maternity and newborn as a package deal, just looking for someone that does both of those that has prices that aren't way out of my budget If I can't do both, I def want newborn pics but I am hoping that I can get a photographer that will also allow me to do print release so I can print as many of the photos as I want. Most of the people I have come across so far started around $600 with the inclusion of a few prints, which doesn't sit well with me. Granted those did include both sessions. I understand that you "get what you pay for" but I def won't be getting anything at all if my starting point is that high already. Crying

And no it doesn't have to be a custom photographer, just trying to weigh my options. Craigslist is a good idea as far as someone just starting out, and I thank you for the studio suggestions ladies!

This. We go there for the times when we want a few pictures to capture a moment/time in G's life but simply cannot afford a pro. The pics are obviously nothing near what a pro would give you, but they are good enough to fit their purpose.

This is who we are going to use for newborn pics. I had my heart set on another photographer but we just couldn't work it into the budget. We got a much lower price for this photographer but I think she said that her prices would be going up so I'm not sure what they are now. It might be worth checking out though. Prior to this, I didn't realize the cost for high quality, professional photographers. It made me sad because I see everyone's photos and they're always so amazing. Hopefully, we'll get some good ones.

I really regret not having professional newborn photos taken. If you can find anyway to work it into the budget, I would do it. Maybe a photographer will agree to take the pictures now and let you buy the digital files later?
