Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Do you have different nap schedules on weekend? or when LO is NOT in daycare?

Hello ladies... I haven't been on here in SOOOO long since going back to work. However, I need some insight, advice, or whatever you can offer.

My 18 month old is in daycare, she loves it, (well, she doesn't cry when i drop her off so i internalize that as baby love) and she's excited to go in the mornings while we get ready.

They nap at noon and she's fine, in a good mood when we pick her up.

HOwever when i have her at home, i think she needs to nap at 9am... she's just whiney, rubbing her eyes, and just being crazy. She's not sick. this is how she always is on weekends or days that i keep her home.

help!!

does anyone else have totally different schedules on the weekends?

  • We have much different schedules!  He takes one nap at daycare and I swear they wake him at the hour mark.  He takes two naps at home, the first much earlier, and sleeps 2 hours at each nap.  It doesn't seem to have an effect on the week at daycare or the time at home.  They are just different.  We eat at different times than daycare too.  They eat lunch at 10:00!  I serve lunch closer to 1:00.

  • I SAH with DD but her nap schedule seems to be different on weekends, but instead of going down earlier she  usually goes down later. I blame it on dada being home.

  • We have a different schedule on the weekends most of the time.  Like another poster said, at daycare they do one nap and we usually do two.  He sleeps through the night no matter the schedule we kept that day so I don't worry too much about it.  I figure, I don't take a nap during the week when I have to work but I'd be all for one on the weekend! :)

  • OH that's so comforting to hear. I think my LO is ready for a nap already but i've tried for months to keep her on the daycare schedule. Now that i'm off for the week i'm losing my mind. I'm trying to keep her awake and she's SO tired!

Thank you so much ladies... i'm off.. to put someone down for a very much needed nap.

    Thank you- Jenn

  • Sometimes on the weekends DS seems tired mid-morning.  However, he works really well on routine, so I really try to stick to the same routine as daycare.  If I put him down for an early nap, he'll just end up in bed earlier and by Monday, it would be more difficult to get back on track.

However, they usually put him down around 12:30, and we aim for more around 11:45-12ish.  But, we always put him down for nap right after lunch, which is the same as daycare, to stay consistent.

  • naptime is immediately following lunch- whenever that might be. if we don't get her down right after lunch, she won't nap.

  • i wanted to add that she still took two naps up until about five months ago or so despite only take one during the week at school. so maybe your child is just tired and needs two naps when home?

  • DD has been on one nap at daycare since July. She is still taking 2 good naps at home on the weekends. The first is about 2.5-3 hours after she wakes and for about 1.5-2 hours. The second is usually around 1 or 2pm and for another 1.5-2 hours. She really seems like she needs both naps still, so I am in no rush to change that.

  • DD (23 months) naps at 1:00 pm on daycare days (Tuesday-Thursday) but when she's home with me she'll go down anywhere from 12:30-1:30 and take a 2 1/2-3 hour nap. HTH!
  • Maybe because there's so much going on at daycare he's distracted? The days we have playgroup or run errands in the morning DD doesn't nap until 12:30 or as late as 1, but if we're home all morning she's ready by 10:30 or 11.
