BFers - Did you take your twin nursing pillow to the hospital?

Or is a boppy fine to use when they are small?

The thing is massive and I don't want to take it if it won't be necessary.

  • I don't remember if I took it or not.  I think I used a boppy and a bunch of pillows.

I really preferred the twin pillow, though.  I would consider it to be worth hauling to the hospital.

  • Thanks, ladies! I'm adding it to my growing pile of things to pack :).

  • I took it and I am glad I did. It helped the LC help me figure out how to tandem feed from the start. It was much easier with someone right there helping me get set up than it would have been at home trying to figure out tandem feeding on my own.

  • I just took one boppy.  I don't have a twin nursing pillow, and while I physically CAN nurse both at once, I prefer not to.  I only do that when we're in a pickle with both girls screaming because they are hungry and can't wait 10 minutes.  Chances are at the hospital you probably won't attempt to tandem feed.

  • We had it in the car so we could bring it in if we wanted it. That said though, I just ended up just using lots of pillows instead and we never did bring it in (one less thing to carry out at discharge! ;)). In the hospital that was fine but once we were at home i preferred to use the EZ2Nurse. Most of the BFing I did from the very beginning was tandem. My boys took so long to nurse as we were trying to figure out latch and trying to keep Alex awake enough to eat (he was especially challenging in that regard) that I couldn't have done one at a time on a regular basis.

    What makes you say that?

The hospital LC had me tandem feeding on day 3.  It would have been earlier than that, but the babies were too sleepy to eat on day 1, and she works part time so wasn't there on day 2.

A friend of mine delivered at a different hospital and also learned to tandem feed before leaving.  I'd say chances are pretty good that you can attempt it before you leave.

  • We took it an left it in the car. We delivered on a Friday and there was no LC at my hospital on the weekend and we left Sunday. So I never got to use it but if I had time with an LC I would have asked if I could bring my pillow up and at least attempt to learn to tandem feed. Even if the babies don't eat, just learning positioning etc would have been helpful.

  • I'd have it in the car, but not bring it in unless necessary.  I had issues with my milk coming in and my  boys' latch so I never got to use my twin BrestFriend - it just didn't work for them.  (my LC even said that really she doesn't recommend them until twins are about 2 months old - the babies just aren't big enough, and my boys were BIG for twins)

I think it goes along with the 'every person/baby is different'.  No reason not to have it in the car, but taking up space in the room might be a pain.

  • We brought it and never used it. I was having a hard enough time as it was getting ONE to latch, I did not attempt to tandem feed! We had 2 boppies which was nice. They were just not latching no matter what we did so we had to bottle feed in addition to BF. So while I was working on BFing one, DH fed the other on a boppy.

  • never thought about this - good idea!  with my son i didnt take anything, just used pillows and it was fine.  but im sure it will be more difficult with twins, especially if i end up needing a c-section and am there for a few days.
