Has anyone done a birthday party at the Playseum in Bethesda?

We're starting to think about DS1's 4th birthday party in 6-ish weeks (wait - wtf?!?  How did that happen?) and were thinking about the Playseum.  Have you ever been there, either just for fun or for a party, and if so, what did you think?

Thanks!

Aw, thanks!  It was a Christmas miracle that they sat still and acted civilized in front of the camera :)
  • I've been there once. I went on a weekend and it was pretty crowded. The space isn't that big so it can get tight when there are a lot of people. However, it is a neat place with lots of rooms with different themes where the kids can play. Also, there's a larger room in the back which would accommodate a larger group. I would ask them whether the place would still be open for general admission during your party. If it's not open for general admission, then I think it would be a great place for a party. However, if it's a weekend and if it is open for general admission, it may be a bit too crowded for a party in my opinion.

This is a good point - thanks!  They will be open for general admission, so - blah.
  • I actually called to see about having DS's 1st bday there, mainly because we needed a space where older kids could do something while adults enjoyed the party.  When I spoke to them on the phone, they close at 5pm and their afternoon parties (from 4-6pm) get to use the entire playseum from 5:30 - 6 without other people.  So, you do get 30 mins of the playseum all to yourself, and they have a separate party room that you'd have to yourself too.

We decided to just have DS's party at home so I never went to check the place out, but it might be worth going for a visit - let me know what you think if you go!

  • The playseum is nice for a general visit but I wouldn't have a party there.  The party tables are in a general room and kind of in the middle of one of the exhibits.  The space isn't that large.  We went one afternoon and a party came and set themselves up.  It kind of turned into chaos because there were general visitors like us and then party participants as well.  It also appeared that there were lots of adults attending the party who didn't have children.

I would prefer somewhere where you could have a private party. I went to a birthday party for a 4 year old at Bounce-U which is in Northern Rockville off of Gude Drive.  That was nice because we had private sessions in each of their bounce rooms and then a private party room to eat cake a food.  Depending on the age of the children coming to the party, this might be worth checking out.  My son was only 18 months old and we took him and while he couldn't do all of the bounce activities, he enjoyed running around in the open areas with the other children.
