Is anyone planning to use Cornstarch as part the diaper changes? Any 2+ time mom's that have used it in the past? A friend recently did this, while she said it was a pain, her LO didn't get any rashes early on.

We have never used cornstarch or baby powder or anything extra during diaper changes and have never had a problem with diaper rashes. If there is ever any irritation we will use a cream (like Boudreaux's) right away and that usually stops anything from happening.
We use it occasionally, to be honest most of the time DS hasn't really needed much of anything. I tend to use a bit of petroleum jelly if anything starts looking angry, Destin if it gets worse. Cornstarch, or powder gets used if he's just... damp, like after a nasty diaper change with lots of wipes. I think changing the diapers promptly and not over using creams has been key with ours thus far, that and a bit of time for the skin to breath is a good thing.
I know that baby powder is not longer considered safe because there is a chance the baby can inhale it. I don't know if cornstarch is the same but it seems like it would be.

we didnt use cornstarch for diaper changes but when DS would get diaper rashes we would put cornstarch in the bathroom sink with water and soak his bottom in it for a while, then let him "air out" for a while, it definitely helped clear up rashes.
anyone else automatically think of Gilmore Girls when reading the subject line? Am I just that sad?!? To answer your question, this is our first so I can't answer it We just bought some Desitin tho and weren't planning on using anything powdery
