Bedsharing and still waking up

DS has been bedsharing with us since he was about 3 months.  He has always woken up several times a night to nurse.  Then when we weaned when he was about 18 months, I thought he just got up out of habit, teething, being sick, etc.  He is now about 25 months and seems to be over teething.  He still wakes up a couple times at night.  Usually he will go back to sleep, but other times, he will be up, touching our faces, rolling around, etc.  Sometimes, he will start kicking and crying and need a couple of minutes of hugging to be soothed and then calm down and go back to sleep.  We can't figure out what the problem could be or if he is just not a great sleeper.  Any thoughts or suggestions?  Thank you!

  • I'm interested to see the response to this. We're still bf-ing so some of it is that but I fell like we're in a similar situation.

  • How do you put him down for bed?  For DD I needed to reset all of her sleep associations so that she could learn how to put herself back to sleep.  Since I didn't want to have to rock, sing, and feed her every time she woke up I couldn't do it to put her down at the beginning of the night or for naps either.  It's done wonders for her sleep.

I recommend checking out Ferber's book even if you have no interest in ever trying CIO.

We actually get DS to sleep pretty easily. After reading and cuddling, we turn off the light, kiss him good night and sit by his bed for a few minutes until he falls asleep. We were down to being able to leave the room right away, but he's regressed a little after being sick a couple of weeks ago. I did read Ferber a while back but maybe should revisit. The only thing is I hate to do anything too new with DS2 on the way soon. I just don't know if his sleep pattern is "normal" and we just need to accept it or if it is pretty unusual and we should try to make changes. It is hard on DH too to have his sleep interrupted so much. I haven't slep the night through since pregnant with DS so annoy so bothered by his sleep habits. But any insight would help! Thanks!
