March 2012 Moms

I'm not going to be a mom who only gains 25 pounds...

I just stepped on the scale and gained another 3 pounds. Right at 21 pounds total now. Ugh. Anyone else gaining more than they hoped?

  • I've gained 18 (4 in the last 3 weeks). I gained over 40 with my first so I'm doing better this time around, but still not as good as I hoped. Oh well.

You are doing great! That is really good and I would love to be in your shoes. I gained 50 last time and I think most of it came on in the end. Do the best you can do, huh? Ugh.

  • The funny thing is that I said in the very beginning that I was gonna make it my goal to only gain 25lbs and that it may not end up that way, but its my goal! Haaaaa! Yeah right! I'm up 40! So much for 25! The phrase, "Everybody carries/gains differently" is one I have to frequently remind myself!

  • I didn't have a goal weight to gain-  I just try to eat healthy and I've gained 30 already.  I don't have a problem with it!  I just know I'll have to work hard afterwards to take it off, but that's okay with me--- if I'm gaining it and eating pretty well, I know little man needs it!

  • I'm totally gaining more this time again than I had hoped. However it's not always true if you gain more that it is harder to take off after baby. Some people gain weight easily during pregnancy and also take it off easily, others just find it to be an excuse to eat everything they want (which will be harder to lose later). I started at a healthy weight and I gained just under 40 pounds with DD and lost 50 by the time she was 6 months old without ever watching my diet or exercising. So don't lose hope if you gain too much, it may still come off really easily.

Awesome! I love this! I want more people to respond saying things like this! I would love to lose more than I've gained! My SIL gained over 60lbs and also lost it all within 6 months without exercising or changing her diet. And she's got a thick bottomed body type. She is my inspiration!!!

It's very true that some people gain more weight and then can lose it easily.  I had a really difficult time losing weight pre-pregnancy so I fully expected to gain like 60 lbs and be stuck with it with my first pregnancy.  Strange enough, I lost 18 lbs during and then gained back 19.  After I had DD, I lost 39 lbs in 4 months, only working to lose about 10 of those.  I will end up gaining more that +1 lb this time but hopefully I can lose it easily again, especially since working out with 2U2 won't be happening!

  • Yeah, I did.  I had high hopes of being the skinny girl who looks like she is smuggling a basketball, but that isn't happening.  It looks like I am smuggling the whole basketball team.  I am at about 20lbs right now...

I'm so worried about that, it was so nice to put C in her play mat while I was working out. Sad I won't be able to do that this time.

  • my goal was 25, I have already gained 30. Still watching what I eat, and hoping that with hard work I lose it afterwards. I am just going to go with the flow. its not easy but I am hoping my body knows what it is doing

  • I didn't have a numerical goal because I didn't want a reason to beat myself up if it didn't work out for me. My goal was to eat well, continue exercising, and not obsess over my weight because really there is only so much we can do about it.

  • I've already gained 50 pounds, but it seems to be leveling off and I haven't gained more than a pound or two the past few weeks. My appetite was quite ferocious in the 1st and most of the 2nd trimester, but it's calmed down quite a bit. I've also been working out more and eating healthier since I realized how quickly the weight was piling on. I'm very optimistic about losing the weight post-pregnancy, though. I've heard a lot of stories from women that gained 60+ pounds and lost the weight easily while breastfeeding. I plan on hanging pre-pregnancy pics of myself in a bikini throughout the house to stay motivated!

My goal exactly.  I eat really well, work out 5-6 times a week and that is really the best that any of us can do for us and our LO's!

  • well I gained 35 lbs with DS#1 and 30 lbs with DS#2 (which totally baffles me cause #1 was early and only 5 lbs and #2 was 7lbs). Last time I was at the Dr I had gained 24lb. I dont really care, I just know that I have some work to do after DS#3 comes.

  • Exaclty - I'm up almost 22 pounds. I'm hoping things will taper off in the 3rd tri as I am already unable to eat as much - it's like there just isn't as much room! I'm sure having big, food-gorging holidays in the 2nd tri didn't help much either-but I was really hoping for the 25 max too.

I just hate the weigh ins so much. Last night I was babbling about my ideal get-back-in-shape work out plan after D Day to hubbs in the car. I'm sure he tuned me out and thinks I'm neurotic. Stick out tongue I just feel so gross now - and can't imagine how I will feel/look in the upcoming weeks.

Alex has arrived! 9 pounds, 21 inches - 3 weeks early on March 2nd ~went natural - very intense. whew!~
  • I've gained about 20 so far.  I started off about 15 pounds overweight, and my midwife told me to aim for only 15-25 pounds of weight gain.  At my last appointment, I was told that I needed slow down on my weight gain and aim for less than a pound a week for the rest of my pregnancy.  I had gained 6 pounds in 4 weeks.  I have an appointment tomorrow, and I'm nervous to see what my official weight is.  I think I'll be up about 4 pounds, which is better than last time, but still more than she recommeneded.

If it weren't for the scolding, I wouldn't care so much about the weight gain.  I started at the same pre-pg weight last time, and gained 50 by the time I had DS at 37w.  I lost 35 within the first 4 weeks doing nothing.  The next 5 came off with minimal diet changes.  The last 10 took a little more effort, but they were gone by 5 months pp.
