I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind answering them.
1) After having a baby(or babies) did you go back on metformin? Why or Why not? I was told that sometimes after a baby you don't need metformin anymore
2) Did you have secondary IF? I don't know when we'll start trying again. Part of me is done, but with PCOS I don't want to wait too long.
3) Did/Are you on any form of BC? I don't like the pill/hormonal because IMO it masks the symptoms of PCOS and tricks the body(plus hormones are already out of balance).
Thanks!
Re: Ladies with PCOS
1) no- i was only on it because my RE said it would improve egg quality. i'm not insulin resistant, so it wouldn't be that helpful when we're not trying to conceive.
2) we have not tried again. we are not sure if we will.
3) i am not on any hormonal birth control. our main form of contraception at this point is abstinence... and that if we have an accident, we're ok with that.
post-pregnancy things seem to be back to normal, so far. but i was never really a mess with hormones anyway, i was anovulatory but had low estrogen, rather than the usual high estrogen with pcos.
1. I stayed on met the entire pregnancy! I stopped after the babies were born, but went back in it when we decided to try for #3.
2. Having a hellva time this time, I had a BFN my last IVF and now this one I have no idea how it's going to end.
3. nope, will never do any form of BC again. I agree with you.

No, I went off of it after 1st tri with DD and didn't go back on it until TTC #2. This time, I'll be on it the entire pregnancy and would like to stay on it...it helps me keep my weight down and minimizes a lot of symptoms.
2) Did you have secondary IF? I don't know when we'll start trying again. Part of me is done, but with PCOS I don't want to wait too long.
We tried to get pregnant the old fashioned way starting when DD was 4 months old and I weaned her. I was already in talks with the RE though, so we only tried for about 4 months before I went on the pill for FET#2. I had a c/p and needed a little break, so I just stayed on the pill all summer until FET#3.
3) Did/Are you on any form of BC? I don't like the pill/hormonal because IMO it masks the symptoms of PCOS and tricks the body(plus hormones are already out of balance).
After I have the twins, I'll most likely go back on the pill. I had little to no symptoms of PCOS on the pill and liked it that way. I'll also probably go back on spironolactone for acne and hair growth. We'll be done having kids, so I'm not worried about it throwing my body out of whack. As long as I stay on Met, I'll be addressing the blood glucose issues.
2) Did you have secondary IF? Yes and no. We had a surprise BFP in the summer, but it ended in a miscarriage. We went back to the RE for medicated treatments and unfortunately trying for a 2nd seems to be harder. I conceived on the first try of Clomid for TTC #1. For TTC #2, we got a BFN on cycle #1 and no ovulation on cycle #2. We are now on a break.
3) Did/Are you on any form of BC? After my son was born we used condoms. For me, the pill triggers migraines so I stay away from them. Obviously now we ditched the protection.

1)
After I stopped pumping I saw a regular endo. My sugar levels were still on the high end of normal. He said i could go on it if i wanted, or not- it was up to me. I went back on it and OMG - the s/e were SOOO horrible for me when on BCP + met. I felt like I had the flu (body aches, exhaustion, etc)... so I went off of it and didn't go back on until I was TTC again, and not on BCP.
2) After I went off BCP to TTC#2 I did get 2 regular cycles, which was NOT regular for me (usually my cycles were 50-80 days long)... so maybe I was 'fixed', maybe not... but at 35yo i wasn't willing to waste time trying to find out- and went right back to the RE and did 2 rounds of clomid/IUI and got the twins.
3) Yes, I'm on BCP (yaz) which I take daily - no placebo pills, to avoid migraines. I'm done having kids, and bcp keeps my weight and PCOS symptoms down, so i figure i'll be on it until i hit menopause or something.
I'm still nursing and AF has yet to show her face. I've been cleared to resume metformin. I think I'm going to request labs to see where my levels are. Would they be able to get accurate results 5 months PP?
Thanks for the replies!
1. Yes i did at 6 week pp. I am a "lifer" according to my doctor.
2. PCOS is the least of my IF problems so yes i would have secondary IF but we are currently one and done.
3. Yes i am on BCPs. My cycles are crazed and i need BCPs for regulation. I am on Seasonique (the every 3 month period pill). BCPs do not bother me like others do.
1). No. I wasn't ttc nor had I had any occasion to discuss with my doc. I've thought about it for other reasons though but the side effects give me the shudders.
2) If you mean have I gotten knocked up again, then no I haven't. Not sure what your question is. I didn't get pregnant on my own to start with.
3). No I'm not.
1- NO I didnt like the Metformin at all and actually stopped it right before I got KU
2- Nope everything is ok except my damn ovaries, very stubborn
3- I have to be on BC to control my acne and excessive bleeding I get from the PCOS. I wish I didn't but I HATE my acne and it's pretty bad if I am not on BC (I guess I never asked about any other hormone therapy) I do wish I could "accidently" get KU...that would be fabulous but I know it's not gonna happen!
1) I was taken off of it at when I was 13 weeks pregnant with DS by MFM. I was going to ask when we were ready to TTC #2. We never had a chance to ask--see below.
2) Most definitely not. I forgot to insert my ring in June in the proper time and I was pregnant in July (July's didn't get inserted because it was technically my first PP AF and super heavy. We would never have thought that we would've gotten pregnant so easily especially when there was just one day in July when we found "couple" time.
3) While I was nursing I was on the mini-pill with no AF. I was only on the Nuva-Ring for about 3-4 months before I forgot it. We've been throwing around one of us getting snipped after this LO is born but I'm hesitant because I don't really want one of us to get snipped and still have to go on some type of hormones to balance out the PCOS symptoms. I may do a long-term bc so I don't forget to take it again.
Good luck!
