Hi guys, I posted on the 3rd tri last Sun due to being in the hosp Sat am w contractions-they were able to settle them down with trib. Sunday I lost my mucus plug,went in and was having 10-15 cont an hr. They tried one drug didnt work, and so they put me on magnesium via IV. They warned me it would be the worst experience for the 30 minute initial rush dosage. They werent kidding, I thought I was about to die. Then I stayed on it two days. It is so intense they have to monitor your lungs for fluid, urine output, blood and vitals every 4 hrs. They then weaned me off and onto an oral pill. Im now at home on bedrest the rest of my preg. Its odd, when I first went in the oncall dr said my cervix mesaurement was 2.6 (one wk prior it was 3.5), then the peri specialist checked it a few days later and said it was 3.1. So who was right?
This bedrest is so hard for me already. Im used to working out daily, and now conifrned to the couch/bed- but can at least showever, use the bathroom and get up for a meal. How restricted is your bedreset.
Ive also noticed I went into the hospital at a 17 pd weight gain and now Im down to 14 pds! So I weigh 122 pds. This concerns me, is the baby no longer growing or is it just due to muscle loss already??

I am 29 weeks and in my second week of bedrest for complete placenta previa. It is so scary and strange. I also work full time, have a 4 year old and am usually very active. It feels like my life was suddenly snatched away from me. Since I can't do anything I have nothing to think about but all the things that can go wrong. I try to distract myself but it is difficult.
I am also allowed to get up for short periods, sit on the couch etc. No bending, lifting.
At my last appointment I had lost about 3 pounds. My doc was not too worried but did ask me about it.

The cervix is dynamic and can fluctuate a lot. My measurements have ranged from 3.9 (the longest after several weeks of bed rest) to 2.1cm. At 24 weeks, it was 3.4cm and the next day I was admitted to L&D for PTL where it went down to 2.4cm. T&P for being on bed rest - I survived 12 weeks of it and am still cooking - the world doesn't end as much as it feels like its going to. Good luck.
So I went on bedrest a week ago (here's to week 2!) for pre-eclampsia. Since I'm still considered mild at this point, I'm on modified bedrest... so I can shower (although I sit on the shower floor instead of standing), use the bathroom, and do things standing for no more than 10 minutes. It's amazing that after one week I've lost a lot of muscle strength in my legs. At my appointment on Friday, I was down about 2 lbs from the week before, and mine's either the stress of the diagnosis or losing muscle... I definitely don't look like what I thought I would at 34 weeks pregnant.
I wish I had better advice to give you - bedrest is really hard for me mentally and I have decent days and bad days. I don't like being waited on hand and foot and treated like I'm going to break at any minute, but I know it's for the best (or at least I'm trying to drill that into my head).

BR is hard, no doubt. Be thankful that a) you're at home & b) that you're allowed up for shower & meals. There's no doubt it's hard and seems like an eternity, but just remember it's temporary.
