Question about Birth Control Pills

Hey Ladies, I know I have read some where on here that a few of you ladies have used birth control pills when TTC to delay ovulation. I'm not TTC quite yet but I am going on my honeymoon in Jan and I'm pretty sure AF will be showing up right before we leave. I haven't spoken to my Dr. yet but I'm wondering when I would have to start taking it and if it would be harmful to me in any way. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Re: Question about Birth Control Pills

  • I haven't done this, but I know several women who were already on BC pills have skipped the placebo pills so they don't their period on honeymoons/vacations/wedding/etc without any ill effects. But if you are looking to do this next month, it might not be enough time.

ETA: If you've never taken hormonal birth control in the past you might want to weigh the risks of going on the pill with not having your period. Some women's bodies don't work well with hormonal BC.

This.  I've never taken birth control pills, but a friend of mine just switched to a new one and it took 3 months for her body to adjust...during which she got a light period/spotting on and off all the time!  Not so romantic... :)

I've never heard of BC being used to delay ovulation, but if others have done this, I hope they weigh in just because I'm curious to hear how this works!  I think most women who are already on BC stop taking it several months before TTC so that their cycles can regulate, so depending on how soon you want to start, that also might be a vote against this.

I don't know much about the delaying O part, but when I got on bcp, I had break through bleeding for a few weeks. Light period like. It was really frustrating.  Good luck and have a great honeymoon!
