I have an appt with the doctor tomorrow, but I think my DS had a few seizures. I've caught it maybe 4-5 times on two separate days. The first time was a few weeks ago, but I didn't think anything of it...I thought it was just a newborn stretching thing.
He'll extend all four limbs and sort of bend in the middle, so his body forms a U shape...and his eyes will open really wide. It only lasts a few seconds and he's fine afterwards. Looking back, it only happens when I lay him down on his back after I've held him upright. He normally squirms around and stretches a lot when I do that, which is why i didn't think anything of it the first time....I thought he was just stretching.
But he did it twice again today...and I only really noticed because he did it once while he was in the middle of crying. He stopped crying to do that, and then continued crying...otherwise, I would have still thought he was just stretching (the other times, it happened while he was calm).
I feel awful, like I could have missed this for weeks. I tried to get it on video, but wasn't fast enough. Are there any other signs I should be looking for?
Re: Anyone's DC experience seizures?
When he is doing what you think is the seizure, can you snap him out of it? Touch him, speak to him, does he stop?
DS was doing what I thought might be seizures but is just muscle twitches, and that was what my pedi asked and advised if I could stop him from doing it, it wasnt a seizure.
Still talk to your doctor, I hope your DS is okay.
in newborns the signs are pretty much what you described -- the change in body posture. theres nothing to feel awful for - i have teenage students i teach and sometimes cant tell if theyre having a seizure or not since there are so many many different kinds.
and, it may be something totally different anyway! GL tomorrow!
keep us posted!!!!
is he listless, does he have a completely blank expression on his face, eyes rolling back in his head? is his body extremely tense & his muscles hard? does he drool or make "growling" or moaning noises?
i have them, and although i've never seen another person experience one, this is what my husband has described.
good luck, and keep us updated. i'll be thinking about you & your DS. i'd never wish that on anyone.
I didn't try snapping him out of it...I'll try that if he does it again. He doesn't really twitch though...it's more tonic...he'll just hold that position for those few seconds and then it's over.
Thanks for the advice
