What car seat should I get next?

DD mostly rides in my car in a britax boulevard.  No complaints about the britax.  DD has prettying much out grown the Chico infant seat in DH's car (she close to the height limit), so we need to get another seat.  I was going to just order another britax but then started looking at convertibles that can become booster seats so I don't have to buy as many seats overtime.  The sunshine radian seats look good.  I like that it converts to a booster and folds flat for traveling, but it's pricey!  Anyone have one?  Do you like it?  Any other recommendations?

  • We've got the Britax Marathon and love it.  It's height/weight limit go pretty far (can't remember the exact numbers), so we should be able to a lot of mileage out of it.  I'm pretty confident that unless Luke starts growing like a future NBAer we should be able to keep him in it at least until #2 needs it and then we can transition him to a booster seat and/or something that will last him till he doesn't need a seat/booster.

Ditto.  DD is really tall and I am comfortable that she's going to be in that seat for a while.

  • If you're planning on rear facing for a long time the Radian is awesome.  IIRC it has the tallest seatback on the market and a high weight limit.  I think I'm going to move up to one when DD outgrows the Evenflo Symphony that she's in right now, since boosters offer nowhere near the level of safety that ERF'ing does.
    .
  • just a reminder that car seats expire after a few years, so if you are just changing things up b/c you want to save on car seats, you'll still have to replace once they expire.

Good point, I hadn't thought about that!

  • the Sunshine Radian has an 8 year expiration date as opposed to the typical 5-6 year one though
