My MIL already has a NN for Everett but I don't know how I would spell it. Any suggestions that don't look girly- the pronunciation is Eh-vie. I wouldn't want it to be mistaken for Ee-vie. Or is Eh-vie too feminine to begin with? WDYT?
Edit: I don't care whether you're for NN or not. Im really just curious what you think of the NN my MIL came up with and how you would spell it.

Well, it kind of did develop on it's own- from my MIL. IDK- I'm really just wondering how you would spell it.
Well then I guess spell it Evie and correct people who pronounce it wrong. If I looked at it down on paper or heard someone call their child that, I'd assume the child was a girl TBH. Ever would be a better NN IMO if you need something less girly.

I like Rhett spelled that way too. Rett- is some sort of nervous system disorder.
The only Everett I knew didn't really have a nn... but was called Ev on occasion.
As for the nn your MIL came up with it's a bit too feminine for me. When I hear Eh-vie (however you spell it) I think of some women I know who have go by that nn.
I love the name Everett. My college BFF has a son named Everett William. When he was little, we teased her and called him Evie Bill. Now he just naturally goes by Everett or just Ev. Most of his friends call him Ev. He HATES Evie. He's 8.
ETA - Evie and Ev pronounced like Eh not Ee
There was a woman on here not long ago asking about the name Evvie (pronounced eh-vee), but for a girl. She wanted to name her daughter this but, like you, didn't want it confused with the ee-vee pronunciation. Everyone agreed that the two Vs were hideous, and that she should just spell it Evie and correct mispronunciation.
That said, I think Evie is very feminine-sounding. I much prefer pp's suggestion of Rhett, and don't see anything wrong with spelling it Rett, if you want it to look more like the formal name, since it is only a nickname.

A friend has a DS they call him "little man" and it obviously has nothing to do with his name.
Let Grandma call him what she will, why do you need to know how to spell it? Unless you are all for this NN and are going to be putting it on things, I don't really see a need to know. Or if you are just curious. ::shrugs:: I don't think there is a way to spell it other than Evie. ::shrugs::

Same here. I've always liked Rhett as a nn for Everett, though.
OP - I'm not loving what your MIL suggested. It's extremely feminine, IMO. Rhett, on the other hand, is full of manly awesomeness.
ETA: I meant to emphasise that your MIL can only suggest. She can call him Evie if she must, but no one else need follow suit.
Im not a fan of your MILs NN. I agree with this post, I have NN for my DS that has nothing to do with his name.. I would wait and see.
P.S. my great-grandpa's name is Everett and he has never had a NN..not one to do with his name anyway
