i dont really know. my OB wouldnt give me an answer and it was frustrating. - i feel like OBs dont let you "relax" when you have twins. mine said maybe id be okay around 14-16 weeks but i can miscarry anytime.
follow up - however at my 8 1/2 week appointment my RE said that he thinks that based on what we had been seeing on the u/s, they should both be sticking around.
then i went to the OB at 10 1/2 weeks and bc one was 8.87 and one was 6.67 at the 8 1/2 week ultrasound, he wanted to check right away because one could have "petered out". i was annoyed with this bc my RE knows/knew way more than he did but i was too sick to worry at the time...i knew they were both probably still there.
When I graduated from my RE at 8w2d, he said we had a 95% chance of having a successful pregnancy. I'll take those odds.

I honestly feel it did wonders for my pregnancy. I ate a lot of the 'super foods' listed in there daily and drank 3 liters of water consistently, everyday. I carried my boys to 36w 4d and probably would've went longer if I didn't get in a car accident that pushed me into labor. They came out at 5lb 10oz and 6lbs 2oz.
Keep yourself healthy and give them all that they need to grow!

she isnt asking if she should gain 60 pounds according to dr. lukes. im 23 weeks and ive gained 8 pounds and my babies are in the 50th and 75th precentile (and i was 126lbs at 5'7 when i got pregnant)
she is asking if the miscarriage rate will go down after the 1st trimester with twins, which has nothing to do with how much food you eat.
and for the record OP, only gain that much weight from that book if it is instructed by your doctor. it is different for everybody. some people need the extra weight, some people dont. eating like a horse does not guarantee you will have huge babies.
Yes, the risk of miscarriage goes down just like in a single pregnancy but then risk of premature labor/ premature rupture of membranes and such complications is higher with multiples and that risk carries on until the day you deliver (or hit 37 weeks.) I know I was somewhat relieved once I saw heartbeats (risk of m/c decreases significantly), then once I hit 12 weeks (risk goes down yet again), 24 weeks (age of viability) and then 32 weeks (my idea of when a truly healthy baby can be born without too many consequences.) And then because of my history I once I hit 36 weeks I just wanted the babies out and healthy!
GL for a h&h pregnancy for you.

I took it to mean that you can either worry about what might go wrong, or you can focus on the things you CAN do. I know I needed an outlet to funnel positive energy into, and maybe my healthy weight gain wouldn't help my IUGR baby, but it certainly couldn't hurt.

At 14 weeks my RE stopped the progesterone/estrogen treatments because the placentas were developed and the risk of m/c was significantly lower. Seems like you get about an 8 week break during 2nd tri with twins then you start worrying about pre-term. . .

....well it's not what she was asking though. she wanted to know if she can basically stop worrying about a m/c around the same time moms with singletons are told by their OBs that they can probably stop worrying. she was probably worried and had been reading scary things (maybe not) about how the miscarriage rate never really goes down for twins like it does with singletons. or maybe her OB wasnt super reassuring like mine wasnt. i just felt bad bc ive been there and it's like the doctors never let you "relax" when it's twins.
and regarding the book....it may have been helpful to state that you have an IUGR baby which is one of the reasons you are following this book (sorry i had no idea). this book can be misleading and not everyone needs to gain all that weight, which is why i was quick to follow up. im glad it's working out for you and you are seeing positive results in following it : )
Easy tootlebug.....We are all here for guidence from our peers, whatever that guidence may be. You can take or leave the advice that people make. Who are you to jump all over the Dr.Luke book because you don't think that "people need to gain that much weight??" Her mentioning the book, was very relevant to the original question, whether you feel it was or not. I received the recommendation to read the book from a friend with trips because I was worried about the same thing, losing my babies. There is a ton of vauable information in the book, which doesn't promote you to eat cheeseburgers for every meal to gain 100 lbs.
Anyways, like one other nice poster mentioned, I received the same information from my OB. She said that once the babies get to the point where they both have viable heartbeats and similar measurements, they have a 95% chance of making it! Good luck with your pregnancy!

um slow down killer, im very diplomatic when it comes to the Lukes book, as you can see in my second post in this thread and other posts on this board. is it for me? no. is it for others? perhaps yes. that is my philosophy on that - and to follow the doctor's orders. and extra weight is extra weight, no matter how it is gained. it just might easier to take off if healthier eating habits are already in place.
and i didnt say anything about the rest of the book. in my opinion, the information on diet/weight gain is ridiculous...and my OB and MFM share the same views, just like perhaps YOUR OB/MFM embraces it....everyone's doctors/MFMs seem to have differing views on the matter. however i found the rest of the book mildly informative and the recipes were interesting.
and im sorry, i highly doubt that the OP was looking for that type of information, although maybe she found it a helpful addition to the thread. it was very clear that she simply wanted to know if the miscarriage rates went down after the first trimester in multiple pregnancies.

One of the things that I love about this board is that everyone on it gives out so much information, book recommendations, sleep suggestions, etc. A lot of times when new people post books are recommended and I think it's great because with multiples pregnancies there is so much scary information out there if you google things. Of course the OP and everyone else should consult their OB/MFM for questions and medical advice, but I think it's weird that you come down on people for offering a suggestion/information other then specifically what the OP asked.

Sorry for the late response ladies after all that drama. I appreciate any info, even if it is a little off topic. I ended up getting that book the other night. However, I will have to ask my doctor about the weight gain issue. I am 5'2 and it says i should gain about 40 pounds, 25 being in the first 20 weeks. This just doesn't seem healthy to me, so I will have to follow up and ask a dr.

what is weird to me, is that people just throw out this book, like it is the bible on multiples. this book has very drastic weight gain recommendations which should be approved by a doctor. not everyone twin mom needs to gain that much weight. so just throwing it out there, like it is the bible of weight gain for multiple, isnt right in my opinion, and that's what was bothering me. i could care less if threads get a little off topic.
and the OP wasnt asking for weight gain advice, she was looking for some reassurance re: miscarriage after the first trimester with multiples. so yeah, i was a little irritated that her question didnt really seem to be taken seriously, and then, yet again, the Great Recommendation For the Dr. Lukes Book, was thrown out. again, not all twin moms need to gain that much weight.
