January 2012 Moms

I suddenly feel as if this baby will never arrive.

After being worried about PTL and having everyone and their mother's unprofessional opinion that I would have her by the middle of this month, I am starting to think she will be late.

Despite extremely frequent BH contractions all day long since about 20 weeks, here I am almost 38 weeks and not only is my cervix completely closed, it is still thick and the baby has not dropped at all and is very high.  My doctor said she is definitely staying put until her due date.  That's fine...obviously she needs at least 2 more weeks, but I am starting to think there is no way she will arrive in two weeks.

Has anyone on here gone from absolutely nowhere near labor according to their doctor to having a baby in 2 weeks?

  • Ugh! No advice..but I feel for ya :( I would be frustrated too! I have kind of an opposite problem. I'm being induced early and have been getting a lot of grief for this decision. Its only one week before EDD and I am 2 cm, very effaced, baby has been "super low" since 37 weeks, have had a completely healthy pregnancy, and I have had many contractions, not just BH. So people can back off. Good luck to you :)

I was strongly considering inducing one week early also, even though I know it is a very unpopular opinion around here.  I wanted to do it so I could have my older daughter home with us, and there was a possibility of my husband getting a job out of state which he would have to move early for.  He ended up getting a really good promotion at his current restaurant and we are staying put, yay!! My daughter already has a plane ticket home Jan 1 for 10 days and time off approved from work, but I am thinking of making her change it to the following week and just leave it in fate's hands.  If I was showing advances I would still consider inducing, but since I am showing nothing, I believe that it is really not meant to be for her to come earlier.

My MIL was checked at 37 weeks with my husband.  She was not dilated at all and the doctor said not to expect anything anytime soon.  She went into labor that night and had him the next day December 25,1982 but wasn't due until January 18.

You never know.  I hope you get whatever you're hoping for!  :)

I remember you posting about this! I hope things work out perfectly for you!

Woo hoo!  I like that story:)  I don't even know what I am hoping for at this point.  Definitely not this week.  My older daughter cannot come home until Christmas and tickets will be crazy here right before New Years.  But the first week of January would be nice:)  I guess I would just like to have her by my due date, Jan 10.

  • I feel the same way. I got checked last week and was not dilated at all (I'm due the day before you are). I also haven't dropped that I can tell and haven't even had any identifiable BH contractions. I didn't get checked at my appt this week, though (my OB has been out and so I've seen two different docs in the last 2 weeks). I definitely don't want LO to come tomorrow or Sunday since we're traveling 3 hours away to DH's family for Xmas but I wouldn't mind if he came early. Actually, I would love if he came on his due date (1/9) because my birthday is on the 9th of a month and DH and I got married on the 9th of another month, so the 9th is kind of special. I know we don't have control over these things unless we need a scheduled C-section or have been given an induction date for whatever reason, but the closer it gets time for LO to come, the longer it seems to take. I am so ready to hold my little boy in my arms that every day feels like 1,000.

I remember reading about the 9th for you.  That would be really cool.  I like the number 3 for some reason, so would like the 3rd, lol.  I just really hope it isn't the 7th.  Not to get all morbid, but I had 2 family members die that die and so the day feels icky to me.  And I am really glad I am not due at the end of the month since both of my parents died on Jan 31, 10 years apart.  I swear I would schedule an induction to avoid that day if it were close to my due date.  I hate that day.  I am just glad that I am likely having my baby in January so I can start having something positive to look forward to that month!

  • Wow, I'm so sorry that January has such painful dates/memories for you. On the flip side, if for some reason your LO is born on the 7th, then that date will have something wonderfully positive attached to it instead of being a reminder of the loved ones you lost. But....I'll keep my fingers crossed for the 3rd for you. Wink

That's what I keep telling myself:)  I will cross my fingers for the 9th for you!

  • I'm starting to feel the same way.  I'm 2 weeks behind you, but I'm closed up tight with absolutely no progress.  I know dilation really doesn't mean anything though, but even DH was saying earlier today that pregnancy has become such a norm for 8 months that he feels like it won't change.  Sure, I've had some BH, but otherwise I feel like I'm getting no indication that baby and my body are getting ready.  It's definately a change from the beginning of Dec when my instincts were trying to tell me that I should expect an early birth.

    Here's to hoping we don't go too far past our due dates. >.<;

  • Sascha and PsyDr - hope you two get the 9th and 3rd!

And yes, I feel like baby will be a squatter and stay past its 1/13 EDD.  I totally thought I'd be a December mom (still time I guess!) but I don't think I've even dropped and I'm not even having BH contractions!  No signs of mucus plug or anything either.

I REALLY hope I don't go past my EDD but, we shall see I guess!

  • I had zero progress a few days before 39 weeks with DS. The doctor swore he'd be late. Then three days later my water broke and when I got to the hospital I was 3 cm without feeling so much as a twinge or cramp. He also never dropped and was high until the end. He ended up being a week early. You never know! Now I don't give it a second thought when I went for my internal and they said "no progress". I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything! Good luck!

  • Last week at my 37 week appointment I wasn't dilated or effaced at all.  My OB told me to start having sex every other day (yeah, that's exactly what I feel like doing).  We only did it once or twice, but I came back to my 38 week appointment and was 30% effaced.  It's not much, but it's some progress.

I also know that there are some acupressure points on your foot and ankle you can stimulate to help go into labor.

    I hope that helps.

  • I feel the exact same way.  I don't get internals, so I don't know the stats of my cervix haha!   But honestly, I feel like nothing's really changed, have zero signs of impending labour and this has been a completely uneventful pregnancy.  I have a feeling I'll be getting induced at 42 weeks as I think that's the longest they'll let me go.  So due date Jan 11th, probably won't have baby till Jan 25th!!  Can't complain though, feel pretty good now!!

Thanks Farmville! Yeah I have this feeling that I'm gonna be like 42 weeks before this baby comes, but I hope not. When I see my OB this coming week, I'm going to ask her how far past my due date she plans to let me go if that happens (of course, she will be on medical leave for most of January so I don't know how that will affect things).
