Newb questions for crafty people - salt dough ornaments

I'm planning on making some salt dough ornaments that Chandley posted.  Can I paint these?  If so, what kind of paint do I use? Do I paint them before or after baking the salt dough?  Do I glaze (if that's even the right word) them?  Glaze them with what? Before or after baking?

Obviously I have no idea what I'm doing so any help would be appreciated.  :)
