Very stressfull/scary day yesterday...not pregnancy related

I had my work christmas party which was from 11 - 1 and I had left my three dogs outside. We live in the country on 11 acres and the neighbor which owns on three side of us also gives the dogs permission to run on his land. The dogs usually stay inside when we are gone but I couldn't find them to bring them in so I had to leave them out. The dogs are Breyer male black lab - 7, Paddles female black lab - 3, and my baby Ruger male yellow lab - 9mo. Ruger came to us when he was 3 days old we fostered his mom and his 6 other brothers and sisters and found them all wonderful homes.

When I got home Breyer and Paddles ran to meet me and I thought it was odd that Ruger wasn't with them then I saw him hiding beside my other car in the driveway. So I parked and got out and walked towards him and saw he was bleeding pretty bad from his neck he couldn't walk and was crying. So of course I freak out and I am now bawling. I put Breyer and Paddles inside and call my husband who was at work and told him to meet me at the vets office that there was something wrong with Ruger. So I picked him up and carried him to my suburban and loaded him in the back and rushed to town (which we live 15 min from town). Hubby was waiting at the vets office for me and he carried Ruger inside while I went in and told them what was going on. Hubby carried him straight in to the operating table and they shave and x rayd his neck and found out someone had shot him. Shot my 9mo old baby!

Well happy ending to the story my baby has him a gardian angel somewhere. He had been saved once again. The bullet missed everything important! It went between his scapula and rib cage and stayed on the outside of his ribs. So he is going to be just fine after a long road of recovery. He is doing 100% better today than we had ever imagined he would be doing. He is now walking on his own and wants to play like always. He is one tough little man, even though he really isn't that little he is just over 70lbs.

So don't forget to hug your furry babies today!

  • omg that is absolutely terrible!

    Poor baby!

I'm so glad he was able to get back home at least!  You should report it to the authorities - esp if it was on your property.  Ugh that is terrible and my heart goes out for your lil guy!

  • Just hugged by pups. I would lose it if someone ever shot my babies.
  • Wow that is really scary!! I have been stressing because one of my dogs started limping pretty bad a couple of day ago, but your story makes me thankful that all my fur baby has is a limp! So glad to hear your puppy is ok.

  • Oh my goodness! That God Ruger is ok (and what a coincidence that his name is Ruger!) Would they ever run ballistics on the bullet or doe they not do that for animals?

  • Oh no!! Is there hunting that goes on that it could have been a stray bullet, or do you think someone would have set out to do it? I'm so sorry you went through that, I can't imagine. I would personally hunt down whoever did it. Glad he's doing OK.

On a ligher note, our Llewellin Setter (bloodline of an English Setter) is also named Ruger, and he'll be a year tomorrow :) Don't see too many Ruger's, so I had to comment.

    Have a great holiday!!

Yea the name was quite a coincidence. The vet left the bullet in him he said it would do more damage trying to get it out the it would to just leave it.

  • That is awful! I am so glad it worked out and you came home when you did.  I don't understand how people can be so mean!

    Have a great holiday!!

Ever since we named Ruger we have met 2 now 3 more dogs named Ruger. There is nothing in season right now that would require the rifle that they used to shoot him. So it was either a close neighbor or someone driving past. We would love to find out who did it and give them a little pay back of some kind.

  • So happy he's ok!!

That's one of my biggest fears w/ my dog.  Sometimes she looks SO much like a coyote which is why she wears a blaze orange jacket (like in my sig) every time we go out to DH's family cabin.  I just have a feeling something would happen if I didn't put it on her.  So scary!!!

My little pumpkin was born at 34weeks, weighing 3lbs, due to severe IUGR & Unexplained Placental Insufficiency. He spent 49 days in the NICU. Lilypie Premature Baby tickers imageimageimageimageimageimage

  • Someone SHOT your dog?! Is that normal -- do people hunt on your property??? How could that even be? I would never leave them outside again, to be honest. That is so scary-  but thank God he has a guardian angel. Poor little thingg.

  • OMG!!!!!! Poor little thing!!!  I can't even imagine what that must have been like, to see your pup in that condition.  I'm so glad to hear he is ok!!!!!!

  • I just cannot believe how disgusting people are! I am SO sorry you and your poor baby had to go through that. I think people who are cruel to animals deserve the worst punishment. I am so glad your sweet boy is going to be okay. Give him lots of extra lovin'...you guys will be in my prayers!

  • OMG, that is AWFUL!!! I can't believe someone would shoot your pup. Sad Our dog is our first baby, and I would be devastated if something like that happened. So glad he's going to be okay, but I am livid for you at whoever did such a terrible thing.
