Diaper Rash? and OB Update!

Jake has had some diarrhea over the last 48hrs..yesterday his poops were a lovely Green color and today they are def better looking but I think we have changed like 5/6 diarrhea fillied diapers..

We are doing BRAT and he seems fine with his personality..not sick at all Just a little more clingy then usual, thats what tipped me off to something being a little off..

Anyway, he now has a terrible diaper rash..all red and sore on his tush and his ball sack area a little bit..cries when I change him and thrashes around even more then normal. I did call the pedi and they are going to call in a script for a cream just in case it got way worse...Anything else I can do for him? I have never really dealt with diaper rash

Re: Diaper Rash? and OB Update!

  • bad diaper rash sucks...make sure you coat him up good at each change so that the poo doesn't touch his skin...and I switch to just warm wash clothes instead of wipes, gentler on his little bum.

  • aw, poor guy!!!   we deal with diaper rash pretty regularly...  triple paste is our friend (along with an antifungal when called for).   Just keep him as dry as possible and change those diapers as quickly as possible, let him air dry really well if you can, too.

And where is the promised OB update?!

    Because we're fancy like that.

  • Not sure if you would want to do this with a bad case of diarrhea, but I usually let his butt air out for a while before putting a new diaper on. You just need to do your best to keep the area as dry as possible. Dillon does worse with OTT diaper cream - the chemicals makes his rash worse so I have a thing I got from my doc - so I can't recommend any good kinds.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • We've been lucky to only have a few of these so far, but they are no fun.  We found having "naked time" after most diaper changes and for sure before and after bath time helped a ton.  Caused a few accidents around the house here and there, but it helped!
