Christmas Traditions?

What Christmas traditions does your family have? What traditions will you be passing on to your little ones?

I want to start a tradition of handprint ornaments with the year on the ornament. My friend gave me a  recipe- and we will be doing this with our little one tmrw.

1 cup salt/ 1 cup flour/ 1 cup water ( add slowly in case the full cup is too much)Use a straw to make hole to string ornament

Bake @ 250 for 2 hours

I love the whole "elf on the shelf" idea- it is the cutest thing I have ever seen- we will be doing that next year for sure!

Re: Christmas Traditions?

  • I can't wait to start Elf on the Shelf next year!  DD is a little young to start that this year, but the idea is adorable.

Growing up, my immediate family woke up real early, opened gifts and went to an extended family member's house.  At night on Christmas Eve, my parents used to read the story "Night Before Christmas" while I was really little when I was going to bed (after laying out the cookies/milk).  Once my little brother was born, I started reading the book to him and he would always put a sleeping bag on my bedroom floor and we had a little slumber party.

For our DD, I'll be keeping the tradition of reading the book.  But unfortunately, we'll be two hours away from home with the inlaws and then driving back Christmas morning to spend with my side of the family.  So our little family of three won't be able to start our own traditions until Christmas night probably.  That whole thing seems to be a huge battle between DH and I every single year.  But this year, we came up with this as a "compromise", so we'll see how it goes. :/

     Hope you enjoy your Christmas!

  • Thank YOU! I hope you and your family do the same as well! Aww I love the sleepover idea!! thats great! Awww totally sounds rough going back and forth like that but maybe since you have a little road trip christmas morning- you can read the story out loud to your little one in the car =)

how old is your lil one? mine is too young for elf on the shelf too but next year- he will be in our home lol

  • The only tradition I remember is light looking.  My grandparents & my mom would take me all over the area & look at lights.  There was one house that had you drive up their long circle driveway & they had a wonderful display inside their picture window, well worth the drive.

DH & I have done that since we've been together & we do it w/the kids now.  DD is 3 1/2 & is at an age where she loves looking at them "wow, those are pretty mommy" is her response.  Plus it's a nice time for all of us to be together.
