Please tell me you have pregnancy skin advice...

My skin has gone crazy!  I was hoping that entering the 2nd tri would mean it would start clearing up, but no such luck.  It's so bad that not only does it hurt to touch parts of my face, but it actually itches some times (ew). I know you can't use anti-acne products and can't tan, which seriously limits clearing options.  I bought an ultrasonic cleaning brush but haven't seen much (any) results... HELP!!! Any advice is hugely, hugely appreciated.

  • I am sorry, that sounds miserable! I don't have any advice, unfortunately, but you should call your OB's office about it, they should have a good recommendation for you.

  • Technically you're not supposed to use salicylic acid products while pregnant, but my OB ok'ed a face wash with salicylic acid, because you wash it right off, so little would be absorbed. I used Neutrogena's Oil Free Acne Face Wash. It helped me tremendously. I also used this acne product by Murad, which uses sulfur as the active ingredient, which is supposed to be safe during pregnancy. I think Murad has some other products with sulfur that are also safe. It's more expensive then drugstore brands, but what can you do.

  • I used prescription Finacea (not entirely sure of spelling) prior to getting PG and my dermatologist said it was ok for use during pregnancy. It's used primarily for rosacea but can also be used for acne (as I did) - it was much more mild than differin or retin-a than I used previously, but definitely effective. definitely ask your doctors - gl!

This, and my dermatologist also gave me some topical Erithromycin. All my acne cleared up when I was about 10 weeks pregnant. Strangely, my skin was in better shape during my pregnancy than it's been my entire adult life. I gave birth and immediately developed 3 big ol' zits. I swear it was all the progesterone.

Funny, this was totally me too.  I'm breaking out a lot more again now :(

  • Oh sorry! The itchings sounds like rosecea. Mine really acted up when I was pregnant and things that helped were avoiding foundation, putting gold bond lotion for sensitive skin on at night and avoiding real hot baths and showers. Honestly it did not get better after I had DD and I have now done laser treatments and they are a skin miracle worker!
