Help finding the Best Double Stroller

So my Dad sent DH and I an unexpected $1000 for baby stuff and since we already have most everything, we've decided to get a nice double stroller. Everyone we talk to says a good stroller is worth the investment.

I want something sturdy but not necessarily 'off road' or super enormous. DH likes the City Select Elite Double Stroller because it has 16 configurations and is somewhat compact. I like it because it is not a side-by-side stroller which seems to hog up a lot of the sidewalk.

It retails at Amazon for $659, including the second seat. It doesn't include the attachments for carseats, which is an additional $120 or so I think. There are some deals on used City Select Elites on eBay, but not sure if that's a smart way to buy a stroller.

So my questions:

Does anyone have the City Select Elite Double Stroller? If so, how do you like it?

Has anyone bought a stroller from eBay? Good or bad experience?

Does anyone know if there's a discount associated if ordered through "Amazon Mom" for this type of item?

Are we crazy for using this money for a good, sturdy stroller...(as opposed to baby clothes, etc, which I'm thinking we'll get ad naseum from our Baby Shower.) Thoughts?

Thanks so much for your input. Long post, I know, but I figure mom's in this forum know a lot about double strollers!:)

Re: Help finding the Best Double Stroller

  • i'm a huge fan of having a good stroller - so i think that's a great way to use the money - what a nice gift!

I have owned many strollers (including the BJCS) and can say it's my favorite of them all.  It does so much - can be used from infants on up - and is not too huge.

many on this board have it - it's a fabulous twin stroller. I think it's a great way to spend the money.

I wouldn't get it on ebay simply b/c it's harder to deal with it if you have any issues, etc... you can often find them on Craigslist  and save a lot, too.  Or you could buy a used SBS stroller on CL to have when you do want to use one (zoo, etc) to save money.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • We have the Baby Jogger City Select (with second seat and carseat attachments) and like it quite a bit. You do have to remove the carseat attachments to fold it up to go into your car, which is a bit of a pain, but that sort of goes with the territory.  The carseat attachments seemed annoyingly expensive to us, so we hunted and hunted for a bargain on those.

Be careful which carseat adaptor you order; sellers seem to get confused about whether they have the carseat adaptor for the City Select or another model.  We even got the wrong one from Amazon the first time.  Fortunately, Amazon's return policy is very good - an eBay seller's might not be. So be careful, and order that far enough in advance that you can be sure you have the right one!

  • We ordered our BJCS on Amazon with the second seat and car seat attachments. I think if you're going to get a nice stroller like this why risk anything going wrong- go for Amazon or something similar in my opinion. Like pp said, you can save money on a secondary stroller if you end up wanting a SBS (which is what I'm thinking we will do).

    Agreed.

I prefer the sbs strollers to the tandem, but everyone is different.  I'll echo buying from Amazon or somewhere with great customer service and a good return policy.  GL!

If $ was no object, I'd have a BOB dualie revolution.
