I do not have a steamer insert for my pans and I called the company that makes my pans and they do not have one that fits the type of pot that I have. What's another way I can steam my baby's food? How does everyone feel about microwaving?
I grew up on microwaved food, so I have no issue with it. We rarely ate processed food, but we also steamed many of our veggies in the microwave.
You can also steam veggies in a covered pan with a little bit of water in the bottom. Or, you can buy a bamboo steamer at an Asian market. Those fit on top of your pan. Another way to prepare foods for baby food is to roast the item in the oven.

Squeaker born 7/30.
I got a steam basket at a Pampered Chef party once, it is stainless steel and expands and contracts to fit in several of my pots. I don't believe it was terribly expensive, maybe $10-15. I bet some of the kitchen or home stores have something similar.
I don't have a steamer either, but I have a small metal strainer that fits over one of my small pots. I use that and then put the lid on top. It works well for me. Just another idea.
You can even steam veggies over a splatter screen. Just put water at the bottom of the frying pan and this over it. Splatter screens were at Homegoods yesterday for $5.
Re: no steamer insert -how else can I do it?

PgAL and PAL always welcome...Unless you have Cookware you've spent a fortune on and are worried about scratches...you can find the steamer inserts at the Dollarstore...
But you can also just boil whatever you are looking to mash...
