I'm not actually doing BLW, we've done mostly purees, but I've started giving him small pieces of food (toast with fruit puree on it, scrambled eggs, cheese etc).
I know with BLW you give things in a 'fry' shape. Every time I give my LO something in this shape (the other night DH and I had homeade pizza for dinner, so I gave DS the crust of a piece - it was quite solid, and I thought he would just hold it and suck/knaw on it). Within less than a minute he had gotten off a chunk a tiny bit smaller than a quarter. DH noticed it right away and fished it out, as DS has gagged/choked on pieces of toast that were smaller than that)
Should I just give up on anything bigger and go with pea sized pieces? Should I give him a chance and hope he doesn't choke to death?
Ideas, tips?
Re: Feeding/BLW question
Owen gets big pieces of things in his mouth several times a day and has yet to choke on anything. He hasn't gagged in weeks - that only lasted the first few days.
It's up to you how you want to do things, but it's amazing what a baby can do when you just let things happen (under supervision, upright).

I agree completely. People are constantly freaking out when they see us giving DD food, but we've become really confident with her abilities. She never gags and luckily we haven't had any problems with choking.
Not that I'm suggesting being negligent or giving a baby a steak, but it's pretty impressive what they're capable of,
Thanks ladies! I guess I'll need to talk to DH about it. I have a higher tolerance than he does - he side-eyed me for giving LO the crust to begin with.
Thank you for your wisdom!
