What to wear for Maternity Photos?

Hi Ladies,

I'm not due until end of March, but I will be taking my maternity pics either end of  Jan or early Feb.

I'm just wondering what type of clothes you wore for your pictures.  I have no idea!

Also, what week did you take them at?  Any favorite poses?

Thank you!!

  • I did not take any maternity pictures but I would highly recommend looking on Pinterest. There are tons of cute ideas to inspire you.

  • I didn't have pictures, but I think solid colors would probably good. And I second the PP's idea to check out pinterest. Google is a bit iffy since they are often... um... nude! ;)

  • I just had mine done (34 weeks) and I wore a white long sleeve shirt with a pair of jeans.  I wanted casual and comfortable.  The previews I got look so good! I really wanted them outside it was a little chilly but definately worth it. My photographer todl me any color works but she tends to stay away from black.  Good luck

  • My photog recommended solid colors. I did a long sleeve royal blue sweater and took a button up white blouse with me. If you are doing photos inside and they have backdrops, you can get away with any color because they can change the backdrop. I read somewhere to stick to solids and stay away from patterns because they patterns can end up looking wonky if they aren't laying just right on your belly. I also read to go with tighter clothing over loose and flowy, because the tighter will (obviously) really accentuate the shape of your belly.

This. We had ours done last Saturday (I was 2 days away from being 37 weeks at that point). My husband and I both wore jeans and long white sleeve shirts. I haven't seen the previews yet, but my friend's mom did them for us and had us do a lot of the poses by our dining room windows, which allowed in a lot of natural light. We also took a few in the nursery. Solid colors are the best way to go I think. As for poses, we did one with him behind me, both of us holding my belly, some of me by myself holding my belly or looking down at my bump, there were a couple pics taken when we faced each other with our foreheads together looking down at my bump, a couple of kissy pics, and up in the nursery we did one of DH behind me with me holding one of LO's teddy bears, standing by the crib. Those are just a few of the poses we did, I can't remember them all. I'm looking forward to seeing the proofs, hopefully soon!

  • We took ours at 32 weeks. We took them at our house and I wore a maxi dress for some outdoors and I wore a cute polka dot bra with cheeky panties from VS with a sweater that closed over my chest but opened over the stomach. It really depends on where you will be having them taken but I would go with saturated, solid colors and maybe pick a few fun accessories like a colorful scarf and cute shoes to throw in some personality.
