On the world ending in Dec 2012?
We saw a show last night on this solar alignment that happens only every 26000 years and the mayan calendar. There was also a special about stock piling and living off the land. It was interesting there were people who could survive years without leaving their safe places.
ETA: if you think there is something to it how do you think it will happen? Super storm cells? Complete economic ruin? War?
Re: Whats your thoughts?
Just like how the world was supposed to "explode" or whatever in 2000?
I thought that was more about a computer/networking/grid crash because of the year change.
Eh, I'm not going to dwell on it. it won't change how I live my daily life. People have been predicting the end of times for a long time in one way or another, and we're all still here.
If the world is meant to truly end, what the heck is a stock pile going to do for you?

I agree with this, and, if the world is actually going to end, it's not as if I would be the last woman standing while everyone else is gone. It is not affecting my daily life either.

I in no way think that 12.21.12 will be the end of the world, but for some reason, i am TERRIFIED of this day and the way people talk about it.
I think mostly because the only thing I won't get to experience in this life would be having a baby, and we aren't TTCing until March... so if Armageddon could hold of for at least a few months so I can know what its like to be a mommy, I would really appreciate it!
They were not related but they stock piled because of nuclear fallout or war. It was about protecting your space and keeping intruders out because they would want to steal your water. They had gas masks and weapons it was interesting
awww, your FIL sounds cute
lol!
As a Christian, I believe that no one, not even the Son of God, nor the Angels know when the end is coming.
The Mayans have never specifically said the world was going to end...just an era. And, in all honesty...I'm going with the idea that the Mayan calendar guy got lazy and said...okay...12/21/12....ones and twos... sounds good. I'm done.
I don't put any stock into it at all.
it's actually more a matter of the fact that their counting system simply ends. It was based on a pattern that has a finite end. Some apocalypse crazy weirdo decided that meant their calendar was a count-down. The mayans didn't predict anytihng. Their system for counting days just... stopped.

I'm not proud to admit it, but this entire thread just got the Britney Spears, "When the World Ends" song stuck in my head.
I am trying to force REM- "It's the End of the World" into my head instead.
9.6.12 - Crazy J entered the world

From what I can tell, food allergies will be the end of mankind...but I"m not sure about the world physically.
As a Christian, I also believe that "about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,but only the Father." Matthew 24:36, Mark 13:32.
There have been so many people that have predicted the end of the world and those dates have come and gone. I'm not the least bit concerned about 12-21-12.
