May 2012 Moms

If you've felt movement, come on in.

I *think* I have felt the little girl move a few times now, but I'm not 100% sure I know what I'm looking for. I've had 2 different feelings.

The very first time was sort of a strange feeling. It almost felt like a weird fluttering in my lower abdomen. I want to say it almost felt like I had a weightlessness bubbly feeling.

The second feeling I get is like a quick single muscle twitch in my lower abdomen.

Do these sound like what you have felt? If not, can you describe what you felt?

  • I've been feeling baby consistently for a couple of weeks and now I feel her several times a day. What you are describing is exactly what I feel. I think the strange flutter is just the baby moving around and the quick single muscle twitch is an actual kick, which will get stronger and stronger. So, it really sounds like what you are feeling is the baby. Best feeling in the world!

  • I have been feeling kicks and rolls for awhile now. The very first movements were like flutters.
  • Yeah, I would say that is my experience with baby's movement. As a FTM, I wasn't sure at first but now the kicks/jabs are getting stronger and there's no doubt that's what it is.

Also, I've been paying attention to what time of day it's been happening. DS is pretty active around 9:15-9:30pm.

  • I skipped the whole fluttering and went right to pokes which at first I wasn't sure if it was gas or baby but now I'm pretty sure it was baby.

  • This will be my second baby, and I have been feeling him move consistently for a couple of weeks now. That's it! The fluttery feeling will eventually stop and it will all turn into twitches, which gets stronger and stronger as the baby gets bigger. This week my husband was even able to feel him kick while we were laying in bed. It's so exciting! :)

  • Thanks ladies! I'm a FTM, so I'm not always sure what to expect or look for. It's exciting to finally feel her. It is re-assuring that everything is moving along in there. Definitely makes it more real.

  • I would say that definitely sounds like baby movement.  That is exactly how I'd describe the first movements I felt.  They're getting a little stronger as this pregnancy progresses.  My little guy is actually squirming around in there as I type this.  Big Smile
  • Yup and yup. The "bubbles" I think are rolls and other gentle movements and the twitches are kicks.

  • I think it feels different for everyone.  I started feeling LO at 17 weeks and 2 days (yes, I keep track of dates like that LOL).  The first time it felt like four big bubbles pop pop popping in my pubic region.  Since then it varies between feeling like actual kicks, and feeling like he's swimming around.  HTH!

  • I feel this, a "stirring" feeling sometimes, sudden pressure that goes away in a moment or two, and and "gas bubble" feelings where I know I would not reasonably have gas (but do have a fetus). Once or twice, there has been a rubbing sensation. I also get the "kool-aid man feeling," where there is a pretty large area of sudden pressure, like she is trying to bust out of my abdomen like the kool-aid man busts through walls in the tv commercials. That one is my favorite, but the least predictable, so I don't know when anybody else will get to feel that.

  • I feel the flutters but also feel little thumps. I can occasionally feel her on the outside too. I know it's early but this is my second child and I know the difference between gas and baby. (and I've been measuring a week early)

  • Both sound like movement to me.  Mine feel like muscle twitches sometimes.  Most movement now I can feel from the outside too so when you pair the feeling on the inside with feeling it on the outside you know for sure it was baby.

  • I started feeling him late last week and now I've felt him consistently throughout the day (mostly when I'm sitting down.)

For me it does feel like what you are describing - that bubbly feeling and the muscle twitch. It's almost like a very distinct gas movement, but then it doesn't go anywhere, and happens again the same spot or close to it.  The tech told me to look for the feeling right below my belly button based on where his hands were (and his hands were punching away in there on the u/s, and his little feet were kicking all over lol) and that's pretty much exactly where I'm feeling it.

  • Yes! That's definitely the baby.  I have been feeling movement for about a month now.  It's my favorite part of pregnancy.

     Enjoy!
