2nd Trimester

How much milk do you drink per day?

hi, I'm 16w and expecting twins. I don't like milk that much and have to force myself to drink 1 glass a day. I was reading that calcium is very important so I'm not sure if 1 glass is enough?

Re: How much milk do you drink per day?

  • I don't like white milk unless it is on cereal or I'm eating something sweet, but I have developed a recent obsession with chocolate milk.  I never drink more than 2 glasses in a day though.  Keep in mind that your prenatal vitamins probably contain a fair amount of calcium, as well, and if you're eating cheese or other dairy, there is calcium there.

  • I drink chocolate milk, have white only in ceral and tea.   But i do eat cheese, yogurt, icecream etc.. to make up for not having a glass of plain old white milk

  • I drink massive amounts of milk. I drink fat free skim milk... Probably like 2 or 3 pints a day on average. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

But I LOVED milk before I was pregnant and love it even more so now.

If you eat a lot of cheese, greek yogurt, cottage cheese or other sources you should be OK.

You can also try Kefir... it's like a drinkable yogurt. Or a thicker flavored milk type drink. I like the raspberry flavor.

  • Have you tried calcium chews instead?  I like milk but usually only have 1 glass a week because DS goes through the milk like it's water.

  • Talk to your doctor about how much calcium you need.  Mine told me to take calcium pills if needed.  If you don't have enough calcium the baby will take it from your bones, so it's very important that you get enough!

  • I'm 16 weeks with twins as well, and my MFM says I should be drinking 1/2 gallon or MORE a day, but I hate milk, so I have a little with my cereal every day and I take a calcium supplement. I just can't drink that much milk!!
  • The only milk I drink is in my iced chai. I get calcium other ways.

  • I drink 0 glasses of milk.

However, I eat yogurt, cheese and other sources of calcium.  I also take a prenatal with calcium and viatmin D in it

  • Gross, none.  Milk makes me gag.  You can get calcium from other sources.  Yogurt, cheese, collards, spinach, turnip greens, broccoli, bok choy.

  • I like milk normally, but I crave it a lot more while pregnant.  I usually have it in cereal and 1-2 glasses per day.

  • My Doctor recently asked me how much milk i have been drinking.

I told her i enjoy fat free skim milk, and she has asked me to switch to 2% white milk and she wants me to have at least 1 tall glass a day.

Although it tastes like table cream to me, i have grown to actually enjoy this.

She mentioned chocolate milk is okay as well (just in moderation)

  • I too am having twins, and don't really care for milk.  I recently started having issues with reflux, and my high risk MD told me to take tums (for the reflux and calcium).  2 tums have 600 mg calcium.

So I am all about the supplements for this ^_^

  • I love milk!  I drink a lot of nonfat chocolate milk, I also drink non fat milk.  I put milk in my cereal and also have been making smoothies in the morning with nonfat milk and nonfat yogurt.
