What are your Christmas/ holiday plans?

DH is going in to work at noon today and won't get off until noon Christmas Day.  (Past experience says he won't be relieved Xmas Eve, even though he should.)  But I'm thankful I have a good husband and that he works here in town.  That's a lot.

So tell me what your plans are and about the craziness I don't have to endure. :)

Re: What are your Christmas/ holiday plans?

  • We're going to our neighbors/good friends for Christmas Eve.  They have two little boys about Layna's age, they adore each other.  Jakob will be somewhat bored but he'll deal :)

We're going to another friend's for Christmas Day.  But they got DH to make the turkey, buttering him up about how amazing his Thanksgiving turkey was and how they could never compare.  So we've been suckered into making the main course :)

New Year's Eve is at our house.  I told DH he should start a brisket around noon so that we'll have something to eat around 11pm to keep us going.  But he wants to make hot wings, so we have to do what the cook wants!

  • We're spending the weekend with the ILs.  Everyone will eat and drink too much and I'll attempt to get some rest.  It should be a fun time, plus there's no cell service out there so there's no choice but to relax.  :)

  • This probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but it will just be the three of us for Xmas eve and xmas day. DH and I insist on Luke waking up at home on Xmas morning, so we stay home. We've welcomed any family to join us but 2.5-3 hrs is too far for them to drive. ::insert eye roll::

We thought about hosting an "orphan" Xmas eve party, but I kinda dropped the ball on that one.
  • This year Hanukkah falls over Christmas. My mom is having a Latkes & Tamales party so we'll spend Christmas Eve at her house. I'm suspecting that for Christmas Day, we'll probably just stay in our jammies, rent movies, and get Chinese take-out.
  • We are flying to MI tomorrow to spend the holidays with DH's family.  We'll be there 6 days - a little longer than I'd like, but at least I won't have to do any of the hosting duties.  One of their family traditions is a big lobster meal on Christmas eve - yum! And I'm looking forward to all of the martinis and mimosas and champagne... Embarrassed I didn't get to indulge much last year since i was BFing.   I may start drinking on the plane, in fact. I'm SO not looking forward to a flight with a toddler on a teeny tiny commuter plane. :P

That's what Christmas is about- I love it!

I'm going to have a fine time of drinking spiked eggnog and wrapping the remaining gifts while watching Christmas movies on repeat.

  • Christmas Eve Eve service at church tomorrow and then we are hosting our annual Hanukkah latke dinner at our house. DH's favorite event of the year!

Christmas Eve will be spent at my parent's house with my mom's extended family and then we will spend the night at our house that night. My parents and sister and BIL join us for Christmas morning at our house since right now DD is the only grandbaby. We will have Christmas breakfast and then open presents. For Christmas dinner Sunday night we are thinking of inviting some neighbors over for a Christmas leftover potluck.

Monday we are all off so we are taking DD to Sea World in the afternoon for all of the Christmas stuff.

  • We're headed up to DFW on Saturday morning (early early - hopefully by 6) and will be there until Thursday. We'll swap back and forth between my parents and DH's parents and my brother will be in town from CT.

I have to work a little over New Year's weekend (Angry) but we bought tickets to go to Antone's for a show on NYE.

I hope you have a good trip!  Did the restaurant ever find your CC?

  • Friday: DH and I are both off.  We rarely have a day off together so we are probably more excited about tomorrow and Christmas day!  We are doing some final shopping, and wrapping and going to attempt to do the ice skating at the Oasis (pending the crowd).

Saturday: DH works all day.  When he gets off we are heading to Sun City to do Christmas with DH's grandma.  My parents are driving down from Dallas and meeting us there then we will head home.

Sunday: Breakfast with my parents then they are heading to Wimberely to do Christmas with my family.  Christmas afternoon/dinner with DH's mom and brother at our house.

I'm sure my family is upset we aren't driving to Wimberley Christmas day but it has been such a crazy past few months for us that we just want to stay home and relax.  Or as much as we can with MIL but at least we will be at our own house and won't spend 3 hours in the car that day.  I decided to do a shrimp boil for Christmas dinner, its different and easy and inexpensive!  Right up my alley!

    Yes!  Thank goodness!

  • And I forgot the best part - I have all day off tomorrow and am going to do NOTHING.

Well, I'll probably do laundry and paint my nails. But other than that I can chill out and try to finish my book before it's due at the library!

  • DH and I are going to open gifts tonight from the in-laws. We're flying out first thing Saturday morning to go to West Virginia to see my mom. DH has to fly back Monday evening to be at work on Tuesday, and then I'll come back Wednesday night.

  • Working through tomorrow.  Tomorrow night my mom and dad are throwing their annual Christmas party for all of the grandkids.  All of the kids get to open their presents from my parents and we'll have a big meal.  ;)

Christmas Eve we're going to spend the day at home -- just our little family.  I'm cooking a turkey dinner.  We each get to open a gift that night (new pj's).

Christmas Day - DH is making breakfast, we'll eat and wait for my parents to come over to watch L open his presents.  For dinner we'll be going to my parents house again.

I'm off from work all of next week, so I'm just going to spend as much time with L as I can and also try to cross off as many tasks on my before-baby list as possible including finishing up the nursery and doing lots of cooking to stock up my freezer.  Hopefully I can find some time to squeeze some naps in there, as well.  ;)

  • Mil is here with sil and her bf. Bil is surprising mil tomorrow by showing up from deployment. I'll cook Xmas eve and deal with mil insisting on being the only one that cooks anything for DH on his birthday, and I'll drink. I'm just practicing deep breaths to get through new years. That is 11 days in my house. I.can.do.it.
  • bust my ass all day today cleaning because ILs will be here any minute.  Still not done cleaning, but now I don't care so I'm sitting drinking a glass of wine.

Chirstmas Eve- Hang out, make cookies, and play with the kids all day at our house, no real plans, yay! I'm sure MIL and SIL will go shopping for 7 hours like they did last year ::::eye roll::::  Then Italian wedding soup and a movie that night, kids off to bed.  Once kids are in bed set up for Santa.

Christmas morning- Wake up do stockings and santa with kids(MIL and SIL will be here too), eat breakfast. Then start cooking Christmas dinner. My parents come over and we all have dinner together.

We don't go anywhere on Christmas. Like mrsfroggi we made a rule when Abby was born that the kids will wake up at our house every Christmas morning and we don't go anywhere Christmas day.  Anyone is welcome to come to us though.
