Chiropractor? Any experiences?

I've never been to one.  But my back hurts and I was thinking it might be more effective than a massage.  What is being adjusted like?

  • I think it depends on what you are having adjusted. Sometimes I feel instant relief and other times I am a little tender the next day as the muscles adjust to the new alignment. I have found it wonderful overall during my pregnancy though. Just had an adjustment today to open/align my pelvis and I FELT him drop down and have more space after she did it.

  • I'd suggest a prenatal chiro or at least someone with experience with prenatal. I'm going to an exclusively prenatal chiro and I've never been to a regular one (or ever been while I'm not pregnant) so I guess I can't speak to that.

my experience has been really good. she does a lot of massage / soft tissue work and then checks out different balance points: hips, pelvis, pubic bone, back, neck. The only thing that she cracks is my neck and that's weird but painless. she uses an adjuster thing on my pubic bones to make sure they're staying in alignment and she's used that on my ribs before too when they get wacky.

she has shown me stretches that will help open things up so I stay balanced and pain free, and hopefully so this baby will get and stay head down!!!!

last time I was pregnant I ended up in a LOT of pain in my hips and back all the time. I could barely walk, and by the time I saw a physical therapist it was more damage control than prevention. This time I went to this chiro early on (10 weeks I think) when the problems started up again, and it's made all the difference in the world.

  • I've been going to a chiropractor once a week since about 31 weeks. I have had no hip pain since I started going. I'd seen this chiro occasionally prior to getting pg, too. It's quick and painless, but has really helped me.

  • I started seeing a chiro when DS was maybe around 8mo or so (I can't remember exactly). Love him! Every time I get out of whack he fixes me right up. I always feel relief before I leave his office. Sometimes I am still a bit sore the next day, but always better than when I went in. I have seen him a couple times this pregnancy, since between being KU and hauling around a 31lb toddler, my back takes  a beating! He's great! It's also worked out since this LO is breech like DS was, and it turns out my chiro is webster trained, so we have started sessions, and I already think LO is turned! Confirm at u/s next week!

  • AMAZING experience with chiropractor!  Mine uses an activator thingy (a spring loaded hand tool) to realign my spine and pelvis in the front.  At first, I didn't think it did much, it felt different when I walked (like I was squeezing my butt cheeks together).  The next day though, WOW.  I went from moving about 1 inch per second (literally, I could only move by wiggling my toes and was is so much pain it was unfrickinbelievable!) and I now take my dog on a 4 mile walk every day with very minimal pain (in the groin).  Before chiro, I would have been a write off the next day after a walk, but now I wake up every morning feeling refreshed and mobile.  I can't say enough good things about my chiropractor experience.  I went twice, and haven't had to go back, I feel great!!  Honestly, its the best I've felt in 15 weeks.

  • I highly recommend it! I began seeing my chiro at around 18 weeks and would not trade it for anything.  I started going 2x/wk and now we have cut down to 1x/wk because of the success.  My doctor's office has a bed that drops down very low in the center to accommodate pregnant bellies!  Try it, you won't regret :-)
