Pictures for Santa- worst mom ever ;)

Justin is obsessed with coloring. He colors seriously all day- probably 50 or so pictures for me to hang on the fridge. Well now we have an envelope "To Santa, From Justin". He colors all his pictures and when he takes a nap, mommy mails them to Santa at the North Pole for him... aka I toss them on the outside garbage.

I do save some of the stuff he does at school but if I saved every picture my house would look like an episode of hoarders so don't judge ;)

Re: Pictures for Santa- worst mom ever ;)

  • no judging from me. I hate clutter (DH does even more) so I don't save much of anything. Evan brings home some "project" from school every day. I have a folder of some that I want to save, and I rotate a few hanging on the fridge... but 90% of it goes in the garbage.

Last week he brought home a piece of construction paper w/ 2 scribbles on it... my mom gave it to me when I picked him up and I said "toss it" she looked at me like I was the worst mom ever! I asked her if she saved all the sh!t I made and then asked her if she wanted his scribble. She tossed it!

  • No flames here. He comes home with so many projects from daycare. My fridge can't take it all. I do hang up some things like his letter tracing sheets, or a particularly cute project, but most of it ends up in the trash after he goes to bed.
  • I toss a lot, too!  Actually...he busted me last night.  Oops.

A friend here gave me a good idea.  I have a box now that I toss pretty much everything from school in.  Even if I think it's 'toss worthy.'  Then at the end of the school year, she told me to sort through the box with Gavin - I pick out what things are sentimental that I want to keep, he can pick a certain number of things he'd like to send to his grandparents, and the rest gets tossed to make room for the next school year.

  • Lol, dd loves to color too.  And she always needs a new piece of paper.  I was thinking about having Santa bring her a coloring book and telling her that the paper is all gone.

Anyway, what I do is once a month or so divide up some of the colorings and mail them to my 2 grandmas, and dh's mom and grandma.  I usually include a few 4x6s of her in there as well - just snap shots of every day life.  None of the 4 have internet so they don't see my facebook, and DH's mom and grandma live an hour away and don't see her much.

Rarely, if it is something new - like she just started drawing legs and arms on things, I will scan it into the computer as a jpeg and include it in her yearly shutterfly photo book that I make.

  • Don't feel bad!  Another plus for us putting the girls in an in-home DCP is no more projects to feel guilty about throwing away!

  • ethan loves to paint and I have only saved the first 2 that he did.  the rest have found their way into the trash.
  • Haha, I would do the same thing! Essentially Santa did receive them.

  • We all do it.. DD comes home with piles of stuff, and she go through through an entire pad of paper in one day doing scribbles and drawings.  I only keep the special stuff, and I know things like a lot of painted stuff won't last (they get dried out and flake off).  You can't save everything.
  • No flames here.  I do not like clutter, and although I will love my kids' artwork, I do want to limit what is out.  I like the idea of having a frame hung up in the kitchen for each kids and putting one piece of their artwork in there.  We can rotate it, with whatever project they last did, but that way it doesn't overrun the place :).  I have just started a keepsake box for each boy (aka BRU bin) to put some of the keepsake/artwork/pictures in, but I am absolutely not keeping every single picture that they color.

  • Thats an awesome Idea.

I throw away most of Eve's coloring too.. I mean really, its just scribbling. They all look the same.

ME too!!  Our DCP EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. gives us a little project that L did, and some days it's a piece of paper with two little lines on it.  These are the days I know he wasn't into coloring.  haha!  They get moved to the burn pile, and DH uses them to start a fire in the fire place.  That sounds awful!

  • Yesterday Claire brought home 5 pieces of strung together popcorn that was painted (and wet).  How long can one really be expected to save it?  It didn't make it to the next day.   And DCP even sends Evan's "projects" home.  He's 6 months old so either he's a very gifted artist or the teacher has too much time on her hands during nap time.
