I thought tonight would be a good time to start cooking lessons with my husband. Better late than never I guess.
We started with rice and canned green beans. Yes, I'm serious. Here's how it's going so far:
Rice: He figured out which pan to use and found the matching lid (eventually, and really he just narrowed it down to two pans and I told him which one was right). Next, he turned on the stove. I sh*t you not, he did not know each burner on our flat stove top has an inner an outer burner option (inner for smaller pans, outer for larger pans). Well, okay, whatever. He then forgot to set the timer and left it on high and walked away before I called him back. . .Rice is now cooking with relatively small amounts of damage done.
Canned Green Beans: Okay,so here is where I just about died of laughter. He eventually found the can opener. He then clamped it onto the can upside down, punctured a giant hole in the side of the can and as the contents started spilling out he started complaining of how we have a POS can opener and it's broken. I had to point out the gaping hole and clamp it on right for him, then he finished the rest.
Just in case you wondered, we're having chicken cordon bleu with the rice and green beans. I made some extra and froze it. Probably a good idea. In DH's defense, he has many other redeeming qualities and I did not marry him for his cooking skills.
Re: Kitchen Adventures with DH
Take the experience and reverse it... I cant cook, he can. In fact he is an excellent cook.
However, he has no experience with things like making candy from those chocolate drops. I do. He is in the kitchen just now trying to smash candy canes to mix with chocolate... I hear him cuss. I ask if hes ok, he says yes. Then afterwards tells me what he is trying to do. He didnt know I actually do know how to melt and flavor candies for the molds. LOL.
Sweet Dear husband, put the candy canes in a ziploc bag before crushing.
