Anyone use womencare obgyn in abington?

Hi! I had been unhappy with my previous obgyn (Abington) ...I always found myself waiting and waiting and getting very short visits from the doctor. Someone told me about WCOBGYN..they also deliver at Abington but apparently are much better. Wondering if anyone here has used them and has any pros/cons? This is my first baby and really want to make sure I am comfortable with the doctors, experience, etc. Best wishes and Thanks!

  • I love Womencare. I go there and so does my sil. She just delivered our niece with them at Abington. I sm not yet pregnant but will be using them when the time comes. I've never had to wait long for my appointments.

  • I've used them for the last 2-3 years for the births of my sons. They are a good office - not perfect. It's a very busy office and wait times can get bad really fast if the scheduler doesn't schedule things properly. But this doesn't happen very often. Out of all of my appts with them I would say I had bad wait times about 25% of the time. My last appt, which was to check my c-section incision (a quick look), took over an hour. They apologized profusely and said they just switched over to their electronic record system and it went down. While I appreciate the reason, I was one stressed mama as I had a small window to be there because my DH has home with my baby and I exclusively breastfeed. So that's my con.

Some pro's - all of the doctors and nurse practioners are super nice. They will answer any and all questions thoroughly.  While some people may view this as a con, I like that they require you to see all of their doctors in the practice during your pregnancy because you do not know who will be on call when you go into labor. Because of this, you get many different schedule options. I always like to go during my lunch break because my DH and I work nearby and it was easy to run out. Another pro is that they have an ultrasound right in the office. Also, you can get blood tests done in the next office over. Super convienent.

While the waits can be annoying, it doesn't happen all the time. The pros definitely outweight the con and I've been happy with them. Hope this helps!

  • Thank you so much! That really helps. I just made my appt. They do not want to see me until between 8-10 weeks...I am going right at the beginning of my 9th. Hope everything is good. THanks! How many u/s do you typically get and do you get one at the first appt?

  • Just one other thing, I go to the location at the hospital because they have evening hours. I have a crazy work schedule and DH does too and I want him to be able to come to as many appointments as he can so we chose to go to that location.  I am also intersted in how many u/s they give... I too was told that when we get a BFP we will be seen at about 10 weeks.

  • I use Womencare and I love them. Especially Dr. Sullivan.

If you are going to Abington location, they do not have u/s machine there but they have doppler so you can hear the heartbeat. if you are going to Willow Grove location, there they have u/s machine.

  • I had a bad experience there!  I called the emergency number when I was miscarrying at home at 16 wks (baby was 13 wks on u/s that day, I was scheduled for d&c next day) and Dr. Rice was completely rude and inconsiderate.  She told me I would be fine and did not need to go to hospital.  They saw me 2 weeks later and said it was a complete natural m/c and I was good to start trying again.

Fast forward 6 months when I went to see a RE.  She found I have a serious chronic uterine infection, which she thinks was caused by carrying a dead fetus for 2-3 weeks.  I feel like infection should have at least been mentioned to me as a possibility by Womancare.  I'm just glad it was caught before permanent damage occurred.

I generally liked this office (especially Dr. Sullivan) and their hours were super convenient, but I don't know if I can stand to see Dr. Rice.  I understand m/c is common and they deal with it all the time, but her interaction was beyond rude and unprofessional.

I hope that you have a much different experience with the office and best wishes for a happy and healthy 9 months!

They typically only do one u/s at 20 wks - unless they need to see you for something like placenta previa, breech, large baby, etc which was my case.

  • I use WomenCare as well and have been very happy with them. They have been my regular gyn office for years and have been great so far throughout my pregnancy.  Everyone I've seen has been very nice and answered any questions.  The nurses are awesome and will call you back quickly if you need them.  As mentioned, they have flexible schedules with so many doctors and two locations.  Its getting tricky now as I'm nearing the end and still haven't met all the doctors.  Overall I've been happy.  A friend of mine just delivered and Dr. Sullivan was her doctor that day and she said it was a good experience.

I went for my first appt at 8 weeks and had my first ultrasound at 11 weeks for the first tri screening.  If you choose not to have a screening, the only ultrasound you'll get is an anatomy scan at around 20 weeks unless they have reasons to do more.  Its convenient to have the u/s machine at the office and Melanie the u/s tech is awesome.

     Good luck!

  • I have gone to both Womencare in Willow Grove and in Abington.

Abington Womencare is pretty horrible.  I have mostly been to the Willow Grove office, but since I'm nearing my delivery date, I thought I'd visit the Abington office just to get a feel for the place.  They are incredibly disorganized, and twice now the wrong doctor has seen me.  The nurse (Cathy) was incredibly rude, and the doctor I saw (Piccone) just rushed me in and out.  I'm in my 37th week and am pretty nervous experiencing all kinds of different activity in my belly, and my husband came with me because he had several questions he wanted to ask as well.  We didn't get to ask a single question because 1) They were so disorganized we were seen 40 minutes late with no apology 2) the nurse was incredibly rude to us leaving us feeling dumbfounded 3) the doctor seemed to just want to rush through the appointment, we didn't get to ask a single question!  I am moving all of the rest of my appointments to the Willow Grove office because they seemed to have their act together much more, and a lot more polite.  I'm going to assume that the hastiness in their behavior was due to the fact they were running behind twice now, but that has never happened to me at Willow Grove except for one time where the staff profusely apologized for the wait.   All in all, most doctors are great...but if you're going for check ups on a regular basis, save yourself any annoyances and go to the Willow Grove office.
