my little one is 7 months old and he has had a runny nose for a week now. He isn't running a fever but I can tell he doesn't feel well. He does sneeze occasionally but no coughing. I've been told by other moms that all I can do is give him tylenol, use saline drops, put vapor rub on his chest & feet and to use a humidifier. I am thinking that I should call his doctor but I also know that I am new to this and maybe this will clear up on its own?? My husband says that its just allergies and it will go away soon. Am I truly a worry wart?
Re: Runny nose for a week now...wwyd?
My pedi's rule of thumb is after 2 wks it's probably more of a sinus infection and then they treat it--before that just treat as you would your own cold. It sucks though.
and it could be allergies--my son was allergic to our cat and I didn't realize it until he was tested. Night and day difference once we no longer had the cat (we tried everything to keep her--but just couldn't manage it)

Notes:
No, your not a worry wart at all. We are just at the tail end of our bad, bad cold. My DS had such a terrible stuffed up nose and after a few days of that his voice got hoarse. I called the pedi cause everything that I did (prior to having the NoseFrieda) wasn't working and my LO couldn't breath to nurse and then developed the hoarse voice so I called the pedi. Even though he was seen, there wasn't anything that can be done with a bad cold, just as a PP indicated treat it as we do our own. This is what I did. Everynight I sat in the bathroom with steam right prior to his bath, after the bath I used drops of saline and once I ordered and got the NoseFrieda (a lifesaver), I would clear his sinuses. I would then give him some Ibuprofen (since the nurse said that would be better than the Tylenol since it would help with any swelling he might have in his sinuses). In his room, I ran a humidifier and a vicks waterless vaporizer. I also elevated the head of his bed to help him breath better. During the day about 1/2 before he would eat, I would do the saline nose drops and then the NoseFrieda. It was a rough 1 1/2 weeks, but like I said my LO is finally on the tail end. I would have to say, that with all that I did, I was able to provide relief for the little guy. Hope this helps.
