anyone have a so da stream machine?

I just saw a commercial for one on tv and I'm wondering if it really does taste "just like" name brand sodas.  I have a really "sensitive" palate when it comes to Coke (I can tell the difference between the real thing & the off brands) and I would hate to spend the $$ on a machine only to find out that I don't care for the flavor, KWIM?

  • I do and no, it doesn't. If this is not a Christmas purchase, you are welcome to sample my flavors once I get back from vacay. I don't add them, I just use the machine to carbonate my water.

Oooh, so do you think it's worth having to carbonate your own water?  I love me some sparkling water...

    :-)

  • I don't think they taste like regular soda.

I love to make my own ginger syrup for ginger ale. I love the make fizzy water too. I like their water flavorings too.

    love the soda stream :)

  • I have to agree - the flavors don't take just like name brand (most specifically, their diet dr pepper knock off certainly doesn't). But, it's a cool gadget, and DH uses it all the time to make club soda.

It would most definitely be a frivolous purchase so I will absolutely take you up on this.

  • SIL has one and she didn't like their flavorings, so she bought diet coke syrup from Costco or Sam's and somehow made that work. I think she had to buy some giant quantity of syrup, though.

  • So, can you carbonate ANYTHING (liquid) with it? Like juice, or um, I don't know what else I would want to carbonate. Tea? Milk? <----Ick! Uh... flat beer?

just water. if you try to recarbonate it pretty much explodes all over the place.

  • We have it and lurve it. I use it just for fizzy water and add crystal light or true lemon for flavor. I keep meaning to try making my own ginger syrup, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I find the soda stream flavors disgusting. Even the non-diet syrups are sweetened with splenda, not real sugar. In general, I dislike artificial sweeteners, but these took my dislike to a new level. That said, we spent so much money on La Croix/Perrier/Pelligrino water that this saves us oodles. I bought ours as an Xmas gift for DH last year and only need to get CO2 refills every other month. It's awesome.

Well damn, I guess I don't want one anymore. I'd really like to be able to carbonate a juice/water mix or juice/tea blend. I can't imagine wanting to actually do that to mix or stuff gone flat but I have to have more options that juice and tea. Wink

I mix juice with fizzy water :) you could probably make fizzy ice tea, just make concentrated tea and add it to fizzy water :)
