DS is 3 months old and he finally became a pro at nursing about 3 weeks ago. His first feeding in the morning is a longer one (about 20 minutes) During the day, his feedings are a little shorter (10-15 minutes) Before this, there were times when it took him almost 45 minutes to eat, but I am sure he was just comfort sucking.

wow! that is great! right now we do 30 min feedings and she eats every hourwhile awake. she sleeps through the night and gives me one 3 hour stretch in the late morning. dont get me wrong... i am really luck for her nighttime sleeping, but her 1 hour sessions are very tiring .

@ 2 months he was nursing 10-15 min one side every 3 hours. Now he is possibly going through a growth spurt be cause all of a sudden he is on anywhere fron 30-60 mins sometimes every hour.

We have something similar. He just this week started nursing from 30-40 minutes. before that it was closer to 15-20. But it's still about as often, every 2-3 hours during the day.
My 5mo used to take over an hour when she was smaller. Around 3mo? I started switching her after 15 minutes to the other side. If, after the 30 minutes, she still seemed hungry, I'd start her back on the first side again. I timed her last night and it was 16 minutes for both sides. So....it gets shorter. :-) Just might take awhile.

No, at this age 30 minutes is not too long. Up until about 4 months, my LO would nurse for around 45 minutes (or more!) a session and then she was ready to eat again within 1.5 to 2 hours. Then all of a sudden she only started nursing for 5 to 10 minutes a session! It honestly scared me, but she was having normal diapers and everything so I just chalked it up to her becoming a nursing pro.
FOREVER. She would nurse for 1 hour, 1 hr 15 min. And then I could still pump milk off. She never seemed finished. I pump now and she's finally gaining weight. I think she just wasn't getting milk efficiently and that's what took her so long.
