How much...

...water do you drink? I'm not a big water drinker, but if I had an amount I should drink everyday, I think I can do it :)

On a funny side-note: my MIL told me that every ounce of water I drink will turn into milk, even if DS doesn't want it. Really, MIL? I thought it depended on supply and demand... shows how much I know ;)

Re: How much...

  • I drank a lot more when I was BFing my son. Several liters a day. I would always keep a glass close by while nursing and when I went back to work and pumping, I found that drinking water while I pumped seemed to help increase how much I pumped. You can add lemon to your water or maybe some orange if you think that would help you drink more. Good luck!

  • I drank a lot of water even before I was pregnant, so I'm not a good person to judge by, but I drink about 16oz an hour from 7am to 5pm and then another 16oz at his 4am feeding.

  • I drink anywhere from 40oz-80oz a day. It depended on a few things like my dd's age, when she was small I felt thirsty alot and during the summer... as she got older I felt less parched and didn't drink as much. I usually just pay attention to my thirst.. when I am thirsty I drink.

  • You could add milo to your water. Its water flavoring sold @ walmart. I use that when I want some thing else. I usually drink 8 oz an hour.

  • I just drank wayer when I nursed, a cup every time- I was so thirsy.

However with regards to water turns to milk, that s not try- however I have heard that yeast in beer makes a better bf supply- never tried it before.

  • Drinking water in excess of what you need for daily living doesn't increase milk production.  If you aren't eating or drinking enough to begin with that's a different story because your body is working on its dehydration rather than milk production.  Water doesn't make milk, your body does.  You just have to keep it in good shape which includes an adequate amount of hydration (you get some from healthy fruits, veggies, even beef).
